Story
Rosie, an idealistic and passionate Peruvian American, leaves her Tennessee hometown to pursue her dream of making it in New York as a writer. But her plan is derailed when she ends up in class with her archnemesis and ex-crush, Aiden Huntington—an obnoxious, surly, and gorgeous literary fiction writer who doesn’t have much patience for the romance genre or for Rosie. Rosie and Aiden regularly go to verbal battle in workshop until their professor reaches her breaking point. She allows them to stay in her class on one condition: they must cowrite a novel that blends their genres.

Reviewed: 01-13-25
I loved everything about this book - felt giddy with their developing love - except the FMC’s behavior at the end. I know there has to be some misunderstanding and break up - it’s part of the formula of a good romance - but this one annoyed me. Great book and great narrators.

Story
Georgia Woodward lives by her lists, none more so than the one about her ex, Eli Mora. It’s full of the ironclad dos and don’ts they’ve been following since she returned to the Bay Area after their cataclysmic breakup five years ago. With the wedding of their mutual best friend, Adam, looming, and them about to step into their roles as best woman and man, Georgia’s never needed it more. She refuses to threaten their tight-knit friend group with her messy—and still very present—feelings. The rules on that list will keep her cool, calm, and compartmentalized.

I did really like the story and “felt” the love, but it was also exhausting to go through all the internal anxiety. I’d have enjoyed his POV also.

Story
Nash Richards was my first everything. First boyfriend, first time, first love. First heartbreak, too. In a former life, I used to religiously attend Lakeside U's hockey games. Then my ex-who-shall-not-be-named—the team's top defensive enforcer—cross-checked my heart into the boards, and I haven't set foot in that arena since. But when fate conspires against me, I'm assigned to complete my senior athletic training internship with Nash's team, and forced to work closely with the only guy I've ever loved. You know, the one who skated out of my life without looking back.

Story
I've sworn off women because I caught my fiancee with my brother. Now, they're both dead to me. They represent an ache so deep, I might never recover. I've never known a goal I couldn't score - or a girl I couldn't score with. Until I see her curled up in a sexy ball in my hospital room. She's off-limits. Julia Wales is lush, smart, more determined than I am, and 100 percent taboo. For the first time in my life, I want someone I can't have.

Love it, but

I’m only halfway through, but I’m annoyed enough that I have to get this out. Man, you really have to suspend your knowledge of what makes sense in this book. The whole feud between the friends is ridiculous…and the fact that the middle friend didn’t help resolve it AND that the brother, after knowing the truth, didn’t immediately beg for forgiveness.,but instead has to take time to get over it. Get over NOTHING because his feud was based on a total lie, I’m sure it’ll get cleared up by the end, but it’s really stupid how that’s going right now. I do LOVE the build up to the love story though. Just wish some of the plot lines weren’t so ridiculous.

Story
Kylie's best friend Braxton is the hottest man she's ever known, with a rock hard body and a smile that melts the panties off every woman he meets. Except Kylie. Mostly. Kylie is anxious to get off the dating carousel and find something real. Despite the way Braxton tends to suck the air from her lungs, she knows he's trouble. He's just another player, and she's tired of the game. But Braxton isn't the man she thinks. The real reason he's sh*t with women is simple. None of the women he's with are the one he wants. None of them are Kylie.

Good, with issues
Reviewed: 01-23-24
I did enjoy this book a lot. It kept my interested and I “felt” the love between them. My biggest problem with it, enough that I felt so had to review because I think the author needs to see it, is the stupid way that she wrote the angst/problem at the end before the eventual get back together. *spoiler ahead* It was just so dumb. The characters knew the sister would have a problem….they’d talked about the problem and how they might handle it..,they EXPECT her to have the problem and know they’ll have to figure out how to deal with it. Do when the sister DOES issue the stupid requirement even when she doesn’t even know they’re dating, he folds and breaks up with the love of his life without being truthful with the love or the sister. It is just weak writing in my opinion. Maybe I’ve just listened to too many books and heard too many of these end of book problems and am overly critical, but this one was just so unbelievable that somebody would choose that decision on how to act.
Also - the female narrator was not the best.

I did enjoy the story, but you’ve gotta be ready for a really bad sound production, It almost ruined it for me, but finally I decided to try slowing down the speed and I could hear a little better. The male narrator sound is awful, I already have a bit of trouble understanding accents, but throw that accent into a tunnel and it was bad. I got used to it, but didn’t enjoy the listening,
I hope this is an sound experiment they don’t repeat because it made listening to this book a lot of work.
