i appreciated hearing tales i hadnt heard before. Otherwise, the narrator was painfully momotone. i don't think the book was particularly well written. But i came for crimes i hadnt yet heard about, and that much was achieved

Survive the unexpected. Statistically, you're more likely to die from a vending machine than a shark. But, Rob Nelson knows many shark survivors. His college girlfriend was attacked by a crocodile and his roommate, a grizzly bear. His wife was sucked by a wave down a blowhole, he was left stranded at sea after a storm sank his sailboat, and the list goes on and on. To Rob, these "improbable" altercations are "random acts of nature," and he's learned how to survive them.

All Bleeding Stops gives listeners an intimate look at what goes on inside a trauma center, highlighting injuries sustained in car crashes, shootings, and stabbings—basically anything bleeding, obstructed, or perforated. Having lived and breathed trauma for four decades, Dr. Cohn is an ideal guide to demystify the role of the trauma surgeon and their place in a hospital. The behind-the-scenes look he provides is infused with sobering tales from his career as a military surgeon and in trauma centers across the country as well as his descriptions of high-profile medical stories.

Sort of a PBS medical career anecdote book
Reviewed: 09-26-24
The actual dark humor medical expression is "all bleeding stops eventually." I bought this hoping for the tales of numerous and intense stories of what goes into becoming a trauma surgeon and what it is like to practice. Books of this genre I have listened to so far have been lively with both light hearted and heavy stories. This one is similar, but it adds a much more academic/educational flavor re: statistics on surgeon training, work hours, funding of research, etc. at first I was thinking this book wasn't what I wanted. But by the time it was done, I appreciated that it actually enlightened me about some hidden and not so hidden political and financial issues that significantly impact the care delivered in the US.
It never hurts to learn while being entertained, but if your are strictly seeking entertainment, this may not be the book for you.

Story
It’s not always easy to tell when you’re dealing with a narcissist. One day they draw you in with their confidence and charisma, the next they gaslight you, wreck your self-confidence, and leave you wondering, What could I have done differently? As Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It's Not You, the answer is: absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm, you first have to accept that you are not to blame.

I would argue to the ends of the earth that my parents were good parents. They were, except now I see how their emotional maturity deficits have been causative to my problems. Things make so much sense! Of course the ball is in my court to improve myself. I'd very much like a good loving relationship but I see how I've managed to avoid them based on my emotional mat/relationship biases.
I definitely have a much better chance if I can internalize and change based on new understanding!

Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

I am late to this book- by 20 years or so. I understand there are some who argue this author is wrong. I'm not seeing their point. Dr Hodel had all of the necessary components in his life to be and do this, as well as the other numerous crimes described. If you don't really find the detailed background and actual written reports from investigation and legal proceedings, this book will be way too much for you.
The Pathetic behavior of the LAPD and other power people in the area back in the day should be called out. I understand why LAPd doesn't want to acknowledge the dirty past, but perhaps it is too close to the truth of dirty cops and politicians to this day.
I don't need to read or watch anything else about the Black Dahlia, and I can also put a number of other unsolved cases to rest because of this book.
