Suspenseful
Reviewed: 12-02-24
I had read this book when it first came out but now I listened to it. It was quite the suspenseful story! Listening while I walked made my walks much more interesting. I sometimes had to walk a while longer than I had planned because I was in the middle of an interesting part. The only problem was that sometimes it was hard to tell when the narrator had moved from being one person to the next. Her voice didn't change much between characters. But overall, it was a good listen and made my walks interesting.

The overall story was okay but it was just too preachy with about as many politically correct thoughts that a person could come up with. And still Cece ate a peach that was not locally grown. Shame! I have always liked this author but I don’t know if I would read another in this series.

If Alison Kerby really wanted peace and quiet, she never should have opened the Haunted Guesthouse. The Jersey Shore lodge's latest polter-guest is Richard Harrison, the recently murdered brother of long-time resident ghost PI Paul Harrison. Alas, a beyond-the-grave brotherly reunion is nowhere in the foreseeable future - phantasmal Paul left the guesthouse months ago for parts unknown, and for all her ghost-whispering prowess, Alison has no idea how to find him. And she's going to need Paul, because Richard's isn't the only murder still unsolved.

As the holiday season lights up Seattle's famed Pike Place Market, Pepper Reece's beloved Spice Shop is brimming with cinnamon, nutmeg, and shoppers eager to stuff their stockings. Add to the mix a tasty staff competition—a peppermint bark-off—along with Victorian costumes for this year's Dickensian Christmas theme, and Pepper almost forgets to be nervous about meeting her fisherman boyfriend's brother for the first time. But when a young woman working in her friend Vinny's wine shop is brutally assaulted, costumed revelers and holiday cheer are the last things on Pepper's mind.

I really enjoyed this book! The descriptions of the market area and Pepper’s spice shop are so fun! It has been many years since I have visited the Pike Place Market and reading about it makes me want to go back so much! The mystery was good. I figured out who the bad guys were but not why the attack on Beth happened. Thanks for the fun story!

Magical!

I have an Audible copy of this book. I really enjoyed listening to it on my daily walks. Destiny Falls is such a magical place! This is the second book in the series and Hayden is getting used to living in such a magical place. And then she finds evidence that her mother had been there at some point. The mother that she had never known because she left her when she was just a day old. The murder mystery seemed like a minor part of the story and the mystery of Hayden's mother is the greater part. The last chapter of the book is a cliff-hanger that makes one want to get the next book and read on. I definitely like this series!

Clare's grown very fond of Alfred Glockner, the part-time comic and genuinely jolly charity Santa who's been using her coffeehouse as a place to warm his mittens. When she finds him gunned down in a nearby alley, a few subtle clues convince her that Alfred's death was something more than the tragic result of a random mugging, despite the conclusions of the police. Between baking delicious Christmas goodies and fending off the attentions of a persistent professional elf, Clare sets out to solve St. Nick's murder.
