Story
In Slough House, the London outpost for disgraced spies of MI5, memories are stirring, all of them bad. Catherine Standish is buying booze again, Louisa Guy is raking over the ashes of lost love, and new recruit Lech Wicinski, whose sins make him outcast even among the slow horses, is determined to discover who destroyed his career, even if he tears his life apart in the process. Meanwhile, in Regent's Park, Diana Taverner's tenure as First Desk is running into difficulties. If she's going to make the Service fit for purpose, she might have to make deals with a familiar old devil....

Story
A body burns in the high desert hills. A boy walks into a fire station, pale with the shock of a grisly discovery. A middle school teacher worries when her colleague is late for work. By day's end, when the body is identified as local math teacher Adam Merkel, a small Nevada town will be rocked to its core by a brutal and calculated murder. Adam Merkel left a university professorship in Reno to teach middle school in Lovelock seven months before he died.

Heather is a master storyteller with deep and complicated characters. The complex world of addiction and an innocent boy’s entanglement in it is heart rending.

Host Holly Payne's enthusiasm is irresistible!
Reviewed: 09-25-21
You won't be able to stop listening! Holly Payne's enthusiasm for literature and the craft of writing is impressionable and irresistible. She has so much fun interviewing her guests. The conversation is enlightening and authentic in ways that I've never heard before. I've now listened to all available episodes and can't wait for the next one. As a writer and reader, I learn new craft techniques every episode and feel part of a community of people who work and believe in the transgressive nature of story.
