Story
Building on years of research, writing, and cross-cultural ministry, renowned author and theologian David Wells calls our attention to that which defines God's greatness and gives shape to the Christian life: the holy-love of God. In God in the Whirlwind, Wells explores the depths of the paradox that God is both holy and loving, showing how his holy-love provides the foundation for our understanding of the cross, sanctification, the nature of worship, and our life of service in the world.

This is meta narrative at its best!

Dr. Wells is a master at giving us the why behind what we believe and how we should live and worship. Starting with the fact of God’s holy love, Dr. Wells explores the Trinity, our salvation and sanctification, culminating in our work and worship. Masterfully explained and illustrated, this is not a one and done read. On the level of J. I. Packer’s Knowing God, this is a volume to digest and be nourished by again and again.

Story
After four years of unspeakable horror and sacrifice on both sides, the Civil War was about to end. On March 4, 1865, at his second inauguration, President Lincoln did not offer the North the victory speech it yearned for; nor did he blame the South solely for the sin of slavery. Calling the whole nation to account, Lincoln offered a moral framework for peace and reconciliation. Eventually this "with malice toward none" address would be accepted and revered as one of the greatest in the nation's history.

With Malice Toward None
Reviewed: 12-18-24
Only a man who truly had left the ultimate whys and wherefores of such baffling topics as evil, war, and judgment to God's wise dealings, could honestly call on a nation to treat each other without malice. Sadly most people weren't listening that day. They were deciding who should get the blame for the war and excitedly planning to mete out "justice" on their enemies.
This great man and his greatest speech showed the way that would have changed the future of our country in so many wonderful ways. The fact that the speech was ignored may well have been as much a part of God's judgment on our nation as the war was. Dr White's analysis is profound. and shows that Lincoln's speech is relevant to our own political divisions and national moral crises.

Greater Love Has No One

The love of North Koreans for Jesus is impossible to describe. What they endure to worship God is staggering. Equally Christ-like is the love of other Koreans--both South Koreans and those detectors who help them--to spend time and money in risk of their lives so that the North Koreans get the gospel and desperately needed suppliies. And aiding them from afar are foreigners who love Jesus and the Korean people. What an truly breathtaking example of God's work done in God's way never lacking His supply and blessing. May they never lack our prayers.

This was my introduction to Bonhoeffer's writings. Here I found simple gospel truths and directives that are timeless despite the setting of half a century ago. Bonhoeffer's pastoral admonitions on reading the Scriptures, prayer, and confession were especially helpful to me. There is so much food for the spirit in this little book, that I will return again and again to this table.

The bravery of North Koreans is simply amazing. These brothers and sisters are cruelly persecuted because they put their faith in Jesus Christ, rather than the Kim family. They need our urgent prayers and our attention. Not only might we be able to help, but we have much to learn from their faith and perseverance.

Real life lessons

I loved the fact that there are real life lessons in this exciting story. Lessons about getting along, and forgiveness, and bravery in danger, and loyalty in a crisis, even care for those who can't defend themselves, i.e. the house elves. As I listened to Jim Dale's amazing narration of this story, I was reminded that since of us knows what we will face next, it behooves us to keep our old friends close by and to be cultivating new friendships for new adventures. I am 67 years old and I am loving these stories. Can't wait to start the next one!

Zany stories, new insights, profound wisdom all wrapped up in a book about joy. I have laughed, and cried, and cheered, and bowed my head in wonder at the profound insights of this man. I have shared his insights with my friends and my colleagues and my Sunday School class (some overlap there!) as God has used this book to remind me again of His goodness and His greatness. I know that sounds trite, but once you read this book, you will understand.

I loved the suspense of the whole story. I wasnt sure I would like it, but it very quickly I was hooked. This was a WWII spy story far superior to others I have read. The author moved from subplot to subplot deftly causing the reader to hang onto every story as they all came together. And the narrator was the perfect voice for this tale. Overall this was a grand tale.

I just spent most of my day off listening to this great saga! The authors wrote this story in such a way that you could see the situation from different angles. And the tension of not knowing which side would win a fire fight was captivating. The fact that a scenario like this could in fact happen just raised the tension.
The narration was superb and added immensely to the impact of the story. I cannot wait to listen to the third book!
