Story
As the lead piercer at Hel’s Ink, I’ve gained skills, made friends, and accepted the chaos that is my family. Finally, good things are coming my way, and I am feeling confident, maybe a little too confident, when I post a video to my socials describing the toxicity and abuse that is all too frequent in my industry and the life I left behind. After it goes viral, I get threats that move from on-screen to real life and I’m forced to come to terms with needing help.

Stevie Campbell is girl abused but not out. As a lead piercer at Hel's Ink, she's seen a lot of background victimization and exploitation that goes on in tattoo & piercing industry. She's stronger now so decides to help her peers by posting a video laying out all in the open, that goes viral and as expected, harassment starts.
Brooks steps in to shield her from outside brick bats and her internal health struggles. You see even though he's reaping the bodily benefits, he's wanting in her heart. And that makes him a true alpha in my eyes.
It has ups & downs, banter and love, push & pull till they find their HEA.
Lucy Rivers and Aaron shedlock are masters of their craft and have added flavour to the story

Story
A new standalone novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author, Vi Keeland. The night I met Drew Jagger, he'd just broken into my new Park Avenue office. I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills. He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing. Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant. Only, turned out, he wasn't an intruder at all. Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He'd been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.

Ok, I admit, I stay far, far away from contemporary romances. Esp ones where author writes one particular trope -Namely office romances. The story follows a pattern of accidental boss/employee first meet with bit of a misunderstanding thrown in. When The faux-pas is revealed, there's always an Oopsie, my bad!! moment. The couple shares witty banter cause they're literally at loggerheads all the time.
"Some of the best times in life come from bad ideas.”
Forced proximity gives way to appalling encounters slowly morphing into shared passion and then comes the piece de resistance, the unveiling of the heart
See what I did.
I basically summed up the entire repertoire or catalogue of the author's work.
Now technically I stay away, but the writing is So Good!!
I ended up LOVING vi's books. I'm more fond of her psychological twisted side, but this lighter version is adorable too
"I walked over to her, not so much because I felt like I needed to be close to say what I needed to say, but because I hated to be on the other side of the room when I could be near her."
Drew Jagger is a lawyer, Emerie a marriage therapist. We already know the clash will be hilariously insane. He helps divorce couples, she brings them together. And never the twain shall meet..sorta
The heart part I mentioned...yeah ---> Tore. Me. Apart!!
“I’d go three hundred and sixty-four days thirsty if it meant I got to drink you in for just one.”
So Vi somehow has crashed through the barrier and now l7ves rent free in my brain
Narration wise it's TOP NOTCH by Joe Arden and Andi Arndt, couldn't get any better than them

Story
Buried deep below the everyday life of our society lives an underground world of nightmares—of violence and murder no one dares speak about. Contracts and laws weave the web of our culture together. Our Masters walk amongst us. They can be our friends, or the ones to make us disappear forever. Where I once had found peace within my existence, it all ended with the death of my cruel, yet caring owner. My world shattered and I was taken back to the one place I had hoped to never see again—the cells of Whitlock—a subterranean fortress for slaves who await their new placement.

Alaska has a nom de plume for her dark books, and seriously they border on pitch black, so read with utmost discretion. There's non consensual sex....A LOT. Don't say she didn't warn you!!
I'm a sucker for these tropes, I've read my share and then some so nothing bothers me. Which brings me to this story of masters imprisoning subs, auctioning them off, humiliation kinks, blood draws, breath play and brutal rape scene.
I'm not mentioning the word "BRUTAL" lightly. It's jarring emotionally, ripping physically and heinous psychologically.
🚨 Proceed with extreme caution 🚨
With that out of the way, let's delve on the Master Bram Whitlock empire. He inherited this sex trafficking empire, no holds or age barred. He wants to change some rules influenced by his pre-occupation with his slave Everleigh aka 24690
His friend west by his side, he sets about the task of setting up an auction of her. Her master has died and now she's on the precipice of diabolical freedom/ slavery (you'll understand when you read it)
But fate has something else in store for all three of them
I'll stop here.
"You play the game, or the game plays you"
The story starts with hearts and flowers, as much a they can bloom in the dark dungeon. i was questioning the "Pitch Black" darkness I was promised, leaving me thirsty. But soon free falls into the basements underneath. And I was like- THERE. YOU. ARE!
Now the real torture to subjugate the slave starts.
Out of characters Bram is more softer hearted than I had expected. Which is good. Kept the story humane. Everleigh is major kick Ass woman. Her spirit is infallible and strong, I love heroines with a spine, Esp in face of extreme abuse. Her heart is pretty set on Bram so she is vocal about it.
West is the most diabolical and progressed character. He moves from dimension to dimension, changing shades at warp speed. I loved his tunnel focused approach to everything and his goal is in front of him in a straight line. No dilemmas, no second guessing.
Usurp. Use. Unalive
One thing that I would've loved more was the description in the darker scenes. More graphite than the greyish or whiter scenes.
Less emotion, more misery so it pushes the boundaries of dark reader's limits. That's what pitch black books are supposed to do.
But since it's book 1, I have high hopes of this story's Onyx graph climbing higher with each subsequent book.
Story ends on kind of a cliffy, so I HAVE to read ever book now.
And the fact that I loved it!!

"Who did this to you?" my enemy growls. You would think the most wanted criminal kingpin in the country would be too busy racking up bodies to care about the bruise on my cheek, but nope. Here he is, holding my chin, while I pretend his touch isn’t electric. I need to hate him. Scratch that, I will hate him again. The guy decimated my family, and I've been hunting him ever since, determined to make him pay. That one night we accidentally spent together before we discovered we were sworn enemies was great.

The temptation to give up and DNF was so great at 30%
The hero & heroine are from wrong side of the law. He's a mafia boss -captain. She a detective on DEA task force.. They date unknowingly and the attraction is so strong, it's inevitable that they fall in love with each other.
Here the author lost all the plot.
DEA agents go through rigorous training mentally and psychologically, yet this girl has no two brain cells to rub. She's highly emotional to the point of not deciphering simple things that Dylan has to point it out for her
Perpetually on "he loves me; he loves me not" see-saw
Supposedly closed off relationship wise but babbles EVERYTHING to Dylan on first date itself.
They're in a safe house, he's hurt, cops are coming, Shane is yelling LET'S GO!!
But they both looking at each other, reciting love dialogues a page long, till birch comes marching in..DUMB!!
Characters are one dimensional, cardboard cutouts
No research was done at all.
Ughhhh.
Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson have done a phenomenal job though

I'm a sucker for a girl in distress, who seems stuck in a helpless situation till her saviour knight comes riding on a bike, steel pipes roaring as a clarion call
Add tattoos and piercing to this scuffed bad boy in a cutt, and you have me besotted at chapter one.
Aaron "Boner" Claire Saves the darling blue haired "Blue" Faith, and she succumbs to his charm.
Me too girlie me too!!
It's fast paced, full of adrenaline powered action, there's small oases of animalistic pleasure filled scenes at strategic places. Giana sure knows how to thrill and make her readers ache for sexy alphas and juicy heroines.
“Now in the dark, tomorrow in the light. Painted in neons or sunlight or starlight, you’re mine, Blue. You get me?”
Like Kiss among flying bullets, it's dangerous and exhilarating but hearts pound amidst danger. Gregory Salinas and Lee daniels bring out romance and menace with equal fervor.
Fantastic job by all

Rosie Belmont has been driving me wild for years. The good kind of wild. The bad kind of wild. But mostly the kind of wild that comes with wanting your best friend’s little sister and knowing you can’t have her. After living in the city, she comes blasting back into Rose Hill like a storm. Beautiful, messy, and chaotic. And one wide-eyed desperate plea for a job is all it takes for me to hire her.

Dissappointed
Reviewed: 02-12-25
I've read this author's Chestnut Falls series before and it was OUTSTANDING. Hence I leapt at the audiobook, cause audio narration enhances the experience, imo.
And definitely Zachary webber (the creep, abhorrent individual he is) and vanessa Edwin have given a top notch performance.
The writing was mediocre at best. Firstly I run away from Billionaire romances, usually authors use the word "Billionaire" as an adjective, with no regard as to how the money is made, what work is done, how his money has power.
Just the office guy who falls for a girl with no qualifications
He sends her sexy messages in the office and paints the walls at his home cause apparently he gets jealous of the painter flirting with his girl. Cooks for her, basically follows her around, unlike billionaires who work for their money.
Rosalie is i think stupidest, brainless heroine. No character, personality trait that stands out, is SAD once in one office where the powerful boss encroaches on her personal space and body...goes ahead an repeats the SAME with Ford Grant...it's like she has fewer brain cells than an ant.
So much potential wasted in highlighting how a woman at workplace made to feel helpless would empower herself, but author wasted for cheesy, caricature like characterization.
Ford is uselessly lapdogging after his best friend little sister since childhood yet for 10 years never approaches her. I thought rich people had drive!!
To say I was dissappointed is an understatement. Surely she's not the same person who wrote flawless, is it?
And this series created a firestorm of Fangirling.
*sigh* why do I go against my gut instincts? I never learn and it's my fault
The BEST Billionaire romance is Sylvia Day Crossfire Series 4-Volume Boxed Set: Bared to You/Reflected in You/Entwined with You/Captivated by You in my opinion

Final moments and it gives, my dark reader heart perverse pleasure to see villains served the just desserts ice cold.
They took 10 years to extract their own but by gawd, retribution tastes more sweeter when cooked on slow burner.
The story winds up with all loose threads tied, every heinous act accounted for and avenged dearly. The last scene in the police station tore at my heart so the twist in the end was amazingly fulfilling

To understand the monsters in the world, you have to get inside their heads. It's a dangerous place to be, especially when you start to empathize and lose your own sense of morality. But that's never happened to me . . . I've never felt conflicted on any case. Right is right and wrong is wrong. It's simple. Black and white. There's no such thing as a gray area. But f--k this case. I don't even know what side I'm on anymore. I don't understand how this town can continue to function without breaking under the weight of all the lies they've spun and lived.
