Story
A part of me wants to run away again. The memory of my death still haunts my dreams. But this is my home now. And I'll be damned if I give it up without a fight. I mean, all I have to do is learn how to navigate xianxia politics and train for battle while simultaneously running my farm and uncovering an ancient cataclysm that apparently destroyed the Azure Hills back in the day. Meanwhile, I'm about to be a father . . . Man, I'm kinda screwed, aren't I? At least I can call in the cavalry—ahem, poultry—to help.

Great series, fantastic narration
Reviewed: 01-14-25
Very fun series. The author has done a great job keeping the vibe of the whole thing very positive and optimistic, without making the storyline cheap and cliche. The narrator is the same throughout the series, and is very, very good at capturing the characters' characters

Story
Well, this year, after the Spring Planting season, I’m really gonna relax and put down roots. It’s the slow life for me. Sure, the talking animals and cultivators coming to live with me are a bit weird, but this year everything is gonna be basically normal. There definitely won’t be any Heavenly Tribulations, ancient formations, or cultivator issues to deal with . . .

Interesting and engaging story.
Can't say I've really ever enjoyed such light and uplifting reading/listening prior to this. Usually books like that just aren't interesting, or engaging enough... this series hits all the right spots so far. Definitely moving on to the third book.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Story
It's been 10 years since Handry was wrenched away from his family and friends, forced to wander a world he no longer understood. But with the help of the Ancients, he has cobbled together a life, of sorts, for himself and his fellow outcasts. Wandering from village to village, welcoming the folk that the townships abandon, fighting the monsters the villagers cannot - or dare not - his ever-growing band of misfits has become the stuff of legend, a story told by parents to keep unruly children in line.

Better than the first book
Reviewed: 09-21-24
A lot more interesting, and better written than the first book in the series.
The narration is also a bit better, though it's still by the same guy, and still sounds like every word is an exclamation immediately followed by a period... a bit disjoined to my ears.., and somewhat hard to get past, initially.
But, if you liked the first book and didn't mind its narrator, then you'll very likely like this one better.

Excellent, just as the prior two seasons

Incredibly well narrated/acted by all involved.
The story is quite interesting and engaging, but the acting and the sound work (effects, music, etc...) really make this work truly great.
There were a few bits, mostly in the first ⅓rd of the audible, where the sound was a bit off - jumbled artifacts, and some parts where the voices were unintentionally drowned out by the background noise/sound effects. Hopefully it's something they can fix, though it didn't detract from the experience much.
All the "Seasons" so far have been phenomenal. I highly recommend they are experienced in order - if you like the first then you'll very likely dig all three.
Can't wait for the next!

Story
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Unnecessarily hard sci-fi
Reviewed: 07-18-24
It's interesting to see what near future sci-fi, published eight decades ago, had predicted about the world that we ourselves will occupy in just a couple decades.
Although I appreciated that the main characters weren't merely all-around heroes, and that they exhibited both good and bad, as well as questionable human qualities, I found it hard to like any of them. Pretty much everyone of note that was mentioned in this book, was quite immortal and highly hypocritical.
The aspects that made this a "hard" science fiction, made it seem more like a documentary or biography - which could very well be appealing to some. Not so much to me.
The narrator did a pretty good job with distinct personalities' voices, and had fairly few moments in which he mixed the voices up. Big kudos for reading almost all of it using a foreign accent.
It's kind of difficult to judge quality of an "outdated" sci-fi story... but NOT considering it's potential original importance, and impact on the sci-fi genre overall.... I was pretty bored.

Despite running along age-old tropes, actually really quite imaginative and, damn hurry up with the sequel already..
Reviewed: 07-08-24
The breadth of Adrian Tchaikovsky's repertoire continues to astound me. I haven't come across another author that has been able to create such mature (for lack of a better word) narratives, in so many vastly differing ends of the fantasy & sci-fi genres.
With a single exception, every book of his that I've read and listened to (prob. close to 3/4 of what's available on Kindle & Audible from him so far) is a master work - remarkably well thought-out, original in most ways, and enrichingly imaginative.
This specific book, for example, is in essence just another fantasy adventure... a hero and her band of unlikely allies, having a go at some villains to save the world.
Just based on that summation, had it been by pretty much any other author, I would have likely skipped over it and turned on the teli instead.
And... not that this story is world shattering, or anything of the sort... But, maaan, Tchaikovsky really knows how to tell it.
The narration is top notch as well... not certain, but I think the same narrator has done at least some of Tchaikovsky's space sagas as well, and she is very, very good.
Looking forward to the sequel!

A magical serial killer is on the loose, and gelatinous, otherworldly creatures are infesting the English countryside. Which is making life for the Ministry of Occultism difficult, because magic is supposed to be their best kept secret. I love British humor, and this is very much it.
Despite seemingly being unable to simulate a female voice, the narrator/author did a very good job making his characters come to life.

Story
Following the events in Network Effect, the Barish-Estranza corporation has sent rescue ships to a newly colonized planet in peril, as well as additional SecUnits. But if there's an ethical corporation out there, Murderbot has yet to find it, and if Barish-Estranza can't have the planet, they're sure as hell not leaving without something. If that something just happens to be an entire colony of humans, well, a free workforce is a decent runner-up prize. But there's something wrong with Murderbot; it isn't running within normal operational parameters.

mostly more of the save

This and the previous couple books are mostly just more of the same. Which isn't necessarily bad, but I personally hoped for a bit more development/growth from the main character, or something more original and unique from the story arch.
