Story
England, 1936. On a clear autumn day, Kitty and her mischievous spaniel Bertie take a drive to a nearby village. After a long walk in the rolling country hills and lunch in a pretty tearoom, what could be nicer than to buy a couple of bottles of local cider for her husband—and partner-in-crime solving—Matt? Instead, she finds a body in the orchard… Kitty is shocked to discover Titus Blake dead, crushed by his own cider press.

I’ve enjoyed this series but the ending was oddly contrived and didn’t make sense from a motivational standpoint.

Story
Scotland, 1912: When Maud and Daisy travel to Clachan Castle on the Isle of Mull to investigate the theft of a valuable statuette, at first the case seems straightforward. But when their prime suspect, bad-tempered fellow guest Mr Tremain, is found dead in his bed, the detective duo realise the castle is under attack… At first, it appears the murder is impossible. All the doors and windows to the room were locked from the inside, and there was no way for the killer to escape.

History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

A beautiful book, well performed. I would highly recommend it. I’m not generally a fan of romance novels, but the history was spellbinding. Listen, let go, and enjoy.

A year has passed since Elizabeth Bates ran her last con. Life has been simpler, although not nearly as exciting, but she has thrown herself into working to get the 19th Amendment ratified by thirty-six states to become the law of the land. Since every other Southern state has already rejected the amendment, it seems unlikely Tennessee will be an exception … but it's their only hope, so the suffragists descend on Tennessee for the final battle. I’ve struggled with the flexible morality of these main characters, even as I’ve enjoyed the story telling.
For those who don’t know how very difficult it was for women to gain the simple right to vote we have had for only about 100 years, it’s a must read.
Our rights are so fragile.

I’ve enjoyed this series, but far prefer the narration of Bernadette Dunn. This narrator, Lucy Rayner, performs women with such unbelievably shrill, nasal voices that it is nearly ear splitting. The mysteries are cute if not logical but I’m not sure I can take one more chapter of this performance.
