Eye opening and crass

She’s got a mouth on her and is pretty brutal. Honest, unflinching, and pretty intense bio. A little frustrating but relatable on other levels. She does not hold back on details. It was kind of heartbreaking to listen to some of the story. Especially once she becomes pregnant and has a daughter- she was so young, and a lot that comes after that is wild, crazy, and at times sad. A very interesting look into that world (in Hollywood and rock n roll) that most of us know nothing about. Her version of Tommy Lee and what happened with Pamela Anderson was also fascinating in a train wreck kind of way. Good listen n read.

Story
Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow, and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media, where she entertains and educates her millions of followers. But all these share the trait for which she is most famous: unabashedly and unapologetically being herself. This commitment to authenticity has never been more on display than in Down the Drain. With writing that is both eloquent and accessible, Fox recounts her turbulent path to cultural supremacy.

I had no idea who Fox is but I love a good bio. This was suggested a lot by the app so I got it finally. It’s raw and honest. I commend her bravery in telling such an unfiltered story about her life. Some of it is difficult to listen to as far as lifestyle choices but I think it’s another human experience worth your time. Intriguing and well written. Truly I was sad it was over so soon.

Story
Wildflower is a portrait of Drew's life in stories as she looks back on the adventures, challenges, and incredible experiences of her earlier years. It includes tales of living on her own at 14 (and how laundry may have saved her life), getting stuck in a gas station overhang on a cross-country road trip, saying good-bye to her father in a way only he could have understood, and many more adventures and lessons that have led her to the successful, happy, and healthy place she is today.

Not very interesting and narrated w/ screams
Reviewed: 11-30-23
I love Drew B, always have, always will and therefore, I really wanted to like this book. When I was young, I read her other biography, that I think was written with a ghost writer or something like that. I was eager to read something now that she was older and wiser. However, the stories weren’t all that interesting. It pains me to say that. I thought for sure, I’d like this book, but I got pretty bored, and I wanted to return it, however, I couldn’t due to the fact that I had paid full purchase price which I regret. Narration is pretty difficult to listen to because she does do a lot of screaming, I’m not really sure what she was thinking with that. There are some gripping details about her life concerning her father and her mother things like this- the other stories, though just really aren’t that intriguing- long details about laundry in the corner and how she finally learned to use the washer and dryer. Her thoughts jump around and therefore the stories don’t really meld in anyway, I see why she did not want to call this a memoir because it definitely is not. It’s just a jumble book almost like loose thoughts in a diary. I think it makes sense to her, but not to most of us, it’s just not a page turner- point blank.

I grew up with Britney like a lot of people and of course in the 1990 and early 2000s you heard about her from everyone’s point of view but hers. I bought this right away because I of course wanted to know what she felt or saw from her point of view. I thought it was very moving and I recommended it to all my friends. There are questions of course we all have but I know it’s not her responsibility to tell us everything in her personal life. I’m glad she gave us this memoir. Also the narrator who is a famous actress does an exceptional job !!! Just truly stirring memoir.
