Great pace and well written

This is a great story all around. A lot of times a series with this many books tends to move so slowly that you lose interest. Not this one, it’s just right. Great detail in the characters really helps you invest yourself in what’s going on. Not too predictable, but also not so unpredictable it’s disappointing. It gives enough closure at the end that you have some peace, but also enough intrigue to leave you grabbing for the next book. A lot time authors can’t get these balances just right, but A.E. Rayne seems to be a master. This was an excellent kick off to what seems will be a great series!! On to the next one 😊

Story
As a wielder of domestic magic, Finlay Ashowan likes to keep his affairs as neat and orderly as his kitchen. But between his work for the King and Queen of Daxaria and a new (secret) relationship with Lady Annika Jenoure, his life is anything but tidy. For one thing, if Annika and Fin are to continue their romance, they’ll need to sort out the pesky issue of Fin’s being a commoner—before Annika is forced into a political marriage that interferes with her own carefully laid plans. For another, pressure is mounting as the war with Troivack draws ever closer.

Charming

This is a charming little story. A lot of personality is found throughout. The main part of the story is based around romantic relationships, but that’s not what the book is solely about. It’s really a Good vs. Evil idea with a lot of laughs in between. I have enjoyed listening 😊

Story
As more secrets come to light, and my sister and I work harder than ever before to reach our potential and claim our birthright, the end is finally drawing closer. The curse chases on our heels as time rushes by, and the blood-drenched destiny of the man I love looms ever closer just like the monster who stole our throne. We must prepare for the final battle, but three things are clear now—the cards have already been dealt, blood will spill for a new future to rise, and the stars themselves can’t help us.

Best one of the series

This was, by far, my favorite of the series! I laughed more through this book than any book I’ve read. I felt happy, sad, angry embarrassed…and any other emotion possible. I’m so happy I have stuck with the series through all of the frustration and now I’m ready for the next one!!

Ending

I still felt myself lacking completion on the ending. Maybe this was done on purpose, but I felt it just came to a halt with so many things left open. Overall a great story though!
