Story
Humans have been pushed to the brink of extinction by an ever-evolving demonic threat. Portals are opening faster than ever, Towers are bursting into the skies, and Dungeons are being mined below the last safe havens of society. The demons are winning. Quest Academy stands defiantly against them as a place to train the next generation of Heroes. The Guild Association is holding the line but is in dire need of new blood and the powerful abilities they could bring to the battlefront. To be the saviors that humanity needs, they need to surpass the limits of those that came before them.

Good concept. Could have been better.

Good story overall. The part that really drags it down is how the rankings are so important but based on horrible criteria that's more luck based than skill. Also they just throw all these kids into the ring and have them fight without giving any actual training. The whole premise is that they're the next generation of heros but don't actually help them at all.

I wasn't super happy with how book 10 left things but this brought everything together really well. Book 11 has opened up so much in the "He Who Fights with Monsters" universe. I can't wait to see where the series goes!

Story
Reidon Ward's first semester at the Galens Institute hasn't been without reward. In just over half a year he's gone from the weakest cadet at school to one of the strongest in his class, and there's no one left who would argue that his Device, Shido, isn't the most terrifying CAD they've ever laid eyes on. Still, Rei knows that his climb has barely begun, like he knows that the true fight is only just starting. After all… The Sectionals tournament has arrived. Rei, along with Aria, Viv, Catcher, and a couple unexpected squadmates, are about to face the first real battle of their careers.

What some of the negative reviews for this book don't seem to grasp is that this is a continuation of the series. For the story to continue Ell needs to have a life that includes romance. If it was just her running a company it'd be boring.

It was good, but could have been better.

I feel like the story got pulled in to many directions with to many characters. We have Mia and Peter featured in the beginning then we have none of them in the next half of the book. We have a whole thing with Agent Temple and then all of a sudden nothing. Joey comes in the story in sporadic bits with little substance. It was a good book but I wish some of the characters would carry through more of the story and have more impact.

Kinda feels like a rough draft

The characters sort of have a back story but a lot feels left out on some things. The whole build up to drama with the brother is kinda dumb because it only lasts for about 10 minutes total. The whole drama at the end of the book just sounds like a bunch of whining over nothing.

I would never have guessed the second half of this book based on the first half. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger and seems like it might crash but the author pulls off a great conclusion/cliffhanger. I hope book 2 comes out soon! I do wish Jake was more of a shop keeper since he sayes all the time that's what he wants to do but otherwise I really liked the story and progression.
