Story
As a young man, Vince Ellison began his career in the belly of the beast—as a prison guard working in the worst cellblock imaginable. And it was to his dismay and sadness that he has seen that same evil later in life. This time, not in the faces of incarcerated criminals, but rather in the eyes of the leaders of the Democratic party. In this persuasive work, Vince marshals his own experience and couples it with a learned and original analysis to conclude that the leaders of America's "progressive" party aren't just wrong on their policy stances—they are deliberately destructive.

Something that finally makes sense.
Reviewed: 08-07-24
I have to give thanks to Ellison for finally telling the true history about a subject that people fear even talking about, much less presenting a view that contradicts the obvious lies, obvious to anyone partying attention. There was so much that was eye-opening, but always supported by researched facts, which make far more logical sense to Amy reasonable reader, than the lies we, the public, have been told for generations by a government that's supposed to work for us!!

Story
This book is a three-part journey into the rabbit hole we call the nature of reality. Its ultimate destination is a plausible, living validation of transcendence. Each of its three parts is like a turn of a spiral, exploring recurring ideas through the prisms of religious myth, truth, and belief, respectively. With each turn, the book seeks to convey a more nuanced and complete understanding of the many facets of transcendence.

Awesome.... Confirms What I've "Known" Due Some Time
Reviewed: 05-31-24
it's an excellent read. The author is able to put into words what were only ideas, which I've always believed to be true, but which were too complex to try to explain to someone else... everyone always just thought I was nuts. I'm sure they will still think I'm nuts, but at least this is one more piece of evidence to help prove (to myself) that I'm not the crazy one. "Crazy" is living in a meaningless rat-race and convincing yourself it's the true reality.

Story
In his classic book Devil’s Bargain, Joshua Green chronicled how the forces of economic populism on the right, led by the likes of Steve Bannon, turned Donald Trump into their flawed but powerful vessel. In The Rebels, he gives an epic account of the long struggle that has played out in parallel on the left, told through an intimate reckoning with the careers of the three political figures who have led the charge most prominently.

I can't believe Bannon recommended this on War Room... did he even read it first?!?

This has a few good parts in terms of historical accuracy, and presenting the recent financial crises in a way that unveils the curtain on the culprits and tactics responsible. I worked in the industry as an auditor in NYC throughout much of the turmoil described on the book. It should especially benefit those unfamiliar with the workings of Wall St and the unholy alliance between the Wall St banks and the Democrats.
My only issue is how do you get from that, to praising Hilary Clinton, AOC and Biden?!
Are you joking?! Biden and his policies are the worst thing that ever happened to this country. Bannon, are you seriously in support of this?

Story
The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

I grew up Roman Catholic, and I have been wanting to read the Torah, the New Testament Bible, and the Qu'ran in their (respective) original languages. But, since I do not know all of the 'original languages', this was a very good "substitute" (at least, it seemed to be) for purposes of a first introduction to the material.

By the time Henry Kissinger was made secretary of state in 1973, he had become, according to a Gallup poll, the most admired person in America and one of the most unlikely celebrities ever to capture the world’s imagination. Yet Kissinger was also reviled by large segments of the American public, ranging from liberal intellectuals to conservative activists. Kissinger explores the relationship between this complex man's personality and the foreign policy he pursued.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Leonardo da Vinci created the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and engineering. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry.

Classic Isaacson and performer does it justice
Reviewed: 04-22-22
I had high expectations for this book, because I've come to be quite the Isaacson fan over the years. And once again, this amazing historian delivers. He has a remarkable ability to convey an enormous amount of history in a way that is entirely pleasing without even a hint of dryness. I listened to it straight through over the course of two sittings and would say I well-engaged the entire time. The performance did the writing justice and probably deserves a reasonable amount of credit for how it is received. I definitely appreciate this performance. There have been several other books that I was looking forward to (different topics, different authors from this one) that were spoiled by a poor performance. This one was great all around.
