I’ve listened to many ideas about how to sleep better and this is one of the most original I’ve heard. I find his ideas bear up to what I intuitively know and he’s certainly not rehashing all the other advice out there. I trust this author, and he’s really pleasant to listen to. What I’ve tried so far has worked well. I’ll be listening to this again!

There she encounters a world that can be breathtakingly beautiful at times and shockingly harsh at others. Her intense, poetic prose explores and records the rocks, rivers, creatures and hidden aspects of this remarkable landscape.

I listen to this one again and again. I feel like I get to experience a place I’ve never been, but I also listen just for the language of the land. The narration is also superb. One of the best nature books ever written.

Story
In her harrowing, defiant, and unforgettable memoir, Sarah Ramey recounts the decade-long saga of how a seemingly minor illness in her senior year of college turned into a prolonged and elusive condition that destroyed her health but that doctors couldn't diagnose or treat. Worse, as they failed to cure her, they hinted that her devastating symptoms were psychological. The Lady's Handbook for Her Mysterious Illness is a memoir with a mission: to help the millions of (mostly) women who suffer from unnamed or misunderstood conditions.

So much to resonate with here. All I can say is thank you thank you thank you to Sarah for writing this. I love the outrage, the truth, and the hope contained here. This is the bed thing I’ve read on this topic. I went ahead and bought the hard copy too.

For anyone suffering from autoimmune disease (or their loved ones) this book offers an experience of validation. The writing is clear, scientific, and laced with a detective’s curiosity. She knows the doubts and uncertainties and expresses them in a way that helped clarify my own narrative. I found myself tearful more than once with recognition. The quotes are literary and beautiful, the research is smart, and one comes away from this with a deep sense of having been seen and understood.

Story
Koans are the record of paradoxical and provocative exchanges between Zen masters and their students that developed in medieval China. These exchanges, though often elaborated through commentary, have also been boiled down to one-line questions or statements to be held in meditation and daily life. Famous examples include, "What is the sound of one hand?" and "Not knowing is most intimate." In Through Forests of Every Color, renowned Zen teacher Joan Sutherland reimagines the koan tradition with allegiance to the root spirit of the koans.

Great stuff

First, I really appreciate the chapter headings in this one as I often listen to things repeatedly, and it’s easier to refer back. The content is backed by science and compassion, as are all of his books, and it’s easy to understand and implement. The narrator’s voice was good and he pronounced things correctly! I liked hearing Dr. F in the beginning and end. The short inclusion of specifics for autoimmune disease at the end was appreciated, and I hope Dr. Fuhrman will write another book that focuses specifically on autoimmune and post viral syndromes.

In this podcast we hear about how the microbiome is connected to our health and the health of our planet. So much is being discovered about pro and prebiotics and here the Fuhrmans connect this to how our soil and connection to the earth contributes to our longevity and wellbeing. I deeply appreciate this podcast as I’m in the very beginning of starting a garden and it’s quite motivating.
