Story
In this groundbreaking book, renowned psychiatrist Michael H. Stone explores the concept and reality of evil from a new perspective. In an in-depth discussion of the personality traits and behaviors that constitute evil across a wide spectrum, Dr. Stone takes a clarifying scientific approach to a topic that for centuries has been inadequately explained by religious doctrines.

INTERESTING BUT A LITTLE TOO LONG AND REPETITIVE
Reviewed: 03-12-25
A lot of the cases and people mentioned here I’ve never heard of, so those parts I found very interesting and insightful but towards the end I started to get fatigued and checked out by the repetition of the diagnosis.
Narration was good. Nothing to enhance or detract from listening experience.
I would recommend this to anyone interested in this topic.

I WISH IT WAS THE BOOK DESCRIBED IN THE SYNOPSIS
Reviewed: 02-15-25
From the plot synopsis I thought this book would be about a woman defying the odds and succeeding in the male dominated world in Wall Street stock market. We do get that in the beginning and at the very end but the middle was filled mostly with her personal life, which was cool but not what I thought the book would mostly be about. I would have liked to know why the dow being at 260 points is bad. I only knew it was bad because of the countdown to the stock market crashing on Black Tuesday. Also, her happiness seemed too dependent on the men in her life and her character didn’t give that impression at the beginning, so it all felt one dimensional. I never fully connected to the plot or characters and the ending was too perfectly tied up.
I’ve listened to a few books narrated by Helen Laser and she really does elevate the material. Amazing job. She saved the book for me, honestly.

REALLY GREAT AUDIO PRODUCTION FOR A NOT GREAT BOOK
Reviewed: 02-06-25
I’m really interested to see how this will translate from book to film.
I just kept waiting for the actual story to get going. It would progress a little then we’d get extended flashbacks and exposition. In a book like this world building is to be expected, it has to explain how everything works. But this fumbled a really cool and interesting idea. Even the philosophical questions it brings up aren’t fully given attention.
Overall it just felt flat. The humor and Mickey’s flippant attitude started to grate the more the story went on.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

IT’S A CLASSIC BUT NOT ENJOYABLE READ
Reviewed: 01-07-25
I’ve always wanted to read Dracula. Glad to check off another Classic Lit off my TBR.
The reason for the low rating was because of pacing. It started off strong but after the about the 30% mark I quickly became bored. No doubt being so familiar with the vampire tropes hurt my enjoyment and immersion. And the letter / journal format didn’t help matters either. That became tedious.
I can appreciate it for all it did to define the vampire genre but yeah it wasn’t an enjoyable read.
I would recommend reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula Starring Bela Lugosi by Robert Napton. The artwork is beautiful. And it cuts out a lot of the filler.
Narrators did AN AMAZING job!

It was okay overall. Normally predictability and ridiculousness doesn’t lower my rating but being boring does and I was bored for a lot of it. Only saving grace for me was Savannah. It just felt too long.
Initially I didn’t like the narrator but it grew on me.

FINLAY DONOVAN CODED
Reviewed: 12-13-24
I was looking forward to seeing what this author would write outside of the Finlay Donovan series. This is basically Finlay and Vero in real estate instead of running from the mob. I still liked it. Still has the same kind of humor that I like in the Finlay series. Short so don’t expect depth but still a good read.

IT WAS OKAY

I should’ve read the tags before purchasing. I didn’t know that it was christian fiction. It wasn’t a huge part of the plot but I was already not feeling the story.
I didn’t care or connect with the two present storylines. I thought the past story with Tabitha was way more interesting by far. I would’ve DNF the book if it was just about the two sisters. After about 50% in I just started skipping their chapters completely.
I don’t think I’ll read another book by this author.
Narration was great though.

Perfectly paced and length. Dawson is an auto buy author for me. So I didn’t read the synopsis and went in completely blind. After the reading the premise Ready or Not is an apt comparison.
At the beginning it was an okay infiltrate the rich type story but when things turned violent I was locked in. Highly recommend
