She is the sole suspect in custody.

Evan Smoak, the "Nowhere Man" or "Orphan X," is at his unbelievable peak in this installment. The bodies fall, as his personal journey continues.
The only problem with this book is that the next isn't published yet. Waiting is hard.

Story
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

I saw this billed as "a fantasy within a sci-fi novel," but I strongly disagree. It's all sci-fi, as only Neal Stephenson can do it -- as long, of course, as you can ignore just a couple little jumps. Like the nature of consciousness, and its relationship to a physical body...
This opus couldn't have been built by anyone else. Hail Satoshi (or inspiration for Satoshi, you decide)!

Story
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

It's altogether hilarious, and loads of fun, but also asks some very interesting questions about, well, life, the universe, and everything (no, not THAT book, silly, no fish here).
I can't wait for the Prime series, but don't see how it could possibly be better than this performance.

Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her. While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name.
