Excellent series with one minor but annoying flaw.

I've read three of these now and enjoyed them very much. The stories, told in the first person are good, the lead character appealing and the reader fits him perfectly. My only quibble is that in the courtroom scenes no witness ever says "yes" or "no." It's always, "I did" or "I was" or the like. Nothing wrong with this except that after a while they all sound like the same person. It's easily fixed. Just vary the ways they answer the yes-or-no questions

Story
Lillian Adams is going on trial for the murder of her wealthy husband before Judge John Murray, to whom she has been like a daughter since childhood. Despite this long, shared history, both the prosecutor and defense attorney agree that Murray should sit on the case, and Murray himself knows he must. For he believes that if he steps down and another judge is appointed, there will be little hope for Lillian. The prosecutor is a sadistic psychopath who will pervert the law to convict Lillian and do everything in his power to hurt Judge Murray. And Murray must save Lillian.

Entertaining but not plausible.

This held my interest but it involves lawyers and judges behaving in a way no real lawyers and judges would ever act in count.

Story
Martin Clark has been praised as "part John Grisham, part Hunter S.Thompson, and part sheer grit". Mason Hunt returns to his small Virginia hometown as the county's commonwealth attorney. Mason's brother Gates, who's currently serving a 20 year prison term, thinks Mason should have enough pull to set him free. And when Mason refuses, Gates hatches a plan to destroy his brother's life with a secret they both swore they'd take to the grave.

Exceptionally good and imaginative story

Excellent writing, excellent reader. What a great find. Writer, himself a judge, shows superior imagination in crafting the story. His other book, The Substitution Order, is also excellent. Different reader, but equally good. Strongly recommended.

Story
On the surface, the court-appointed case that lands on young Dean Abernathy's desk is a biggie; he is slated to defend a homeless man accused of the felony murder of the popular black New York City Police commissioner during an early-morning mugging attempt. But at second look, the case promises to be a routine conviction. The evidence is overwhelming.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. Reader way too melodramatic, story goes off the rails late in the book.
