An intimate look at an extraordinary life
Reviewed: 01-20-25
I just finished the audiobook today, and after being a little daunted by the length, was a bit sad it was over. As a fan, I knew many of the big beats of her life. But listening to the book, with her incredible storytelling and attention to detail, I came away with so much more knowledge and respect for her brilliant mind, integrity, work ethic, deep life-long friendships, love of food, art and travel...and the her honesty over stage fright and finding late in life true love. Once the book launched into in-depth chapters on her films, I found myself stopping the book to watch the film she just discussed. It was such a fun way to engage with the material.
What a journey she's had so far. We are all truly lucky to have this book and the recording in her own beautiful voice.

A wonderful Hollywood story

This audio book was a true delight! I finished it in three days, as Hawk's stories are fascinating and fast paced. I loved hearing all of his Hollywood stories told through the complicated lens of being the son of a Hollywood legend. It is a beautifully honest book about those struggles, with his father and other relationships. His story of perseverance and self-discovery are quite inspirational. And at this point in his career...he has become a Hollywood legend in his own right...his way. Through extremely hard work, good taste and great relationships he has succeeded on every level. Plus the stories of so many classic films, from someone on the inside, was highly entertaining. And he has a wonderful voice!
