Story
For millennia the location of the Nile River’s headwaters was shrouded in mystery. In the 19th century, there was a frenzy of interest in ancient Egypt. At the same time, European powers sent off waves of explorations intended to map the unknown corners of the globe—and extend their colonial empires.

I was hoping for a book more like the excellent and riveting RIVER OF DOUBT. Found myself bogged down in Victorian manners and ambition. Would love to have heard more details of the surroundings, the discoveries, journey.

A frilly romance novel written around substantial historic events. Less repetitive corny live scenes and more intrigue would have served it well.

Why??? Because it is a believably realistic and compelling story. As the grand daughter of Arizona pioneers Sarah's life is completely relatable . The narration was so well done, it added to the characters description.

I picked up a book entitled JENNY on a visit to Blenheim Palace years ago. I could not put it down and became intrigued with this amazing woman. I had hoped for the same experience through this novel. Sadly I happened on a tawdry, shallow, romance novel with poorly acted narration. So disappointing..

Story
This is how wars are fought now by children, hopped up on drugs, and wielding AK-47s. In the more than fifty violent conflicts going on worldwide, it is estimated that there are some 300,000 child soldiers. Ishmael Beah used to be one of them. How does one become a killer? How does one stop? Child soldiers have been profiled by journalists, and novelists have struggled to imagine their lives. But it is rare to find a first-person account from someone who endured this hell and survived.
