I really tried to stick with this but totally lost interest half way through. Stuck it out until about 2/3 through and cut my losses.

Story
In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the "coolest girl in the world" moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all - beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn.

Paint by Number

Audible version. So disappointing after Nightingale and Great Alone. A Hallmark-ready movie you've seen too many times. Childhood friends with contrasting cardboard personalities love the same man, grow apart, and then an emotionally manipulative and drawn out sad thing happens. Lost count of the number of actual eye rolls while listening to this. I was also 14 in 1974 and grew up in the PNW. Constant name dropping geographical locations and contemporary song titles didn't really contribute to the story and was rather annoying.

Story
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Muffled garbled audio. Couldn't distinguish any words. first time I've ever had to return a book for audio quality.
