I took the chance with this book, simply because I enjoyed the narrator. But he was just the bait, the hook was the good story and funny setup.

I rarely enjoy slice of life stories, but this had just the right combination of story, fun and humor, backed up by great narration.

The first book in the series that I didn't like. The pacing was all wrong and all the elements were stacked by type making it monotone in each segment, but lasting 2-6 hours in that segment. so 4 hours of talking followed by x hours of this followed by x hours of that ending with 4 hours of non-stop fighting.

a new low for the author. I had to give up on listening 4 ours into the book, as I could nor come up with a single reason to continue spending my time on this book instead of something else.

I had to return this title after 1 hour of listening to it, a first for me in nearly 5 years.

The story is 1-dimensional and written like the characters are dolls being played with by a 10 year old. The "story" feels like a mirage of the trope being spied upon from a great distance.

The female voice actor is phoning it in, but the male voice actor is actually trying to make the material work. In their defense, the material is either completely flat and uninteresting, or cringe worthy.

So ends my interest in L.M Kerr

The first book got me hooked, interesting setting, plot, and story. Not great writing (a good 1/3 of each books is exposition), but the rest made up for it and kept me interested.

Book 2 highlighted the poor writing and stagnant development of the story, but I still gave Kerr the benefit of the doubt , so I bought this 3rd book as well. But boy was that a mistake.

The writing quality is actually better than book 2, but there's just no story or character development beyond "Michael gets stronger and beats up new group, which makes Michael stronger so he beats new group, ad infinitum". He meets the love of his life again, but its so contrived and unnatural, I blinked and she's in love with the stranger she just met, I blink again and he's moved on and back at powering up.

I really liked the initial setup and setting for this L.M. Kerr's story, but his writing style is boring and he almost always chooses to tell instead of show, and has a weird/childish way of using titles for people ("head" Cameron). Having just read books by Brandon Sanderson & George R. R. Martin made the difference apparent.

I gave up an hour into this book as I simply couldn't stand the narrator. Her performance as male voices is so bad that it breaks my concentration and stops the story for me every single time she tries to speak as a man.

I was really exited about this series for the first 3 books, as it fit really well with playing the Battletech game. I saw it as a great advantage of the series that it did not involve standard religions, but Rick had to fuck that up and started inserting Christianity into the story, because of course he had to. But here in book 5 it's gone over to straight up christian propaganda.

"she had been very circumspect about trying to share her families' faith with Logan, knowing how intertwined the office of the guardian was with the state religion.

I think, he replied, that maybe what Sparta needs is an old faith, a real faith that people stuck with even when they could be jailed or killed for believing in it, to give the them strength in a time when the institutions they trust have betrayed them.

are you sure about that, she grabbed his hand and clutched it tight, you've got enough to overcome just to take down Hale without starting a religious revolution too." etc. etc.
