I've read all three of these books a couple of times and this was my first time listening on audiobook. The performance was absolutely amazing. So very impressed, enough so that I've looked up more books that are performed by the same woman.

Young Emmett Farmer is working in the fields when a strange letter arrives summoning him away from his family. He is to begin an apprenticeship as a bookbinder - a vocation that arouses fear, superstition, and prejudice among their small community, but one neither he nor his parents can afford to refuse. For as long as he can recall, Emmett has been drawn to books, even though they are strictly forbidden. Bookbinding is a sacred calling, Seredith informs her new apprentice, and he is a binder born.

I feel like I was tricked into purchasing this
Reviewed: 05-05-23
this book is supposed to be about this book binding and all of that and it sounded super interesting so I purchased it. I'm 17 chapters in and there's been almost nothing about book binding or anything that was mentioned in the description of the book and it's turned into just a homosexual love story. It doesn't mention that anywhere in the description or in the tags. this is not the book I thought I was purchasing nor is it the one that I wanted.

There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack - who has already killed Bod's family…

I listened to this book back to back three times over the course of 3 weeks. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and the story. It inspired me to listen to more of this author (as well as purchase physical copies of the shorter stories). Absolutely recommend!

these books are amazing. ever since I discovered Mistborn, I've been addicted to the writing of Brandon Sanderson and performances of Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. this series has me pacing back and forth acting a fool while I listen but thankfully nobody's ever home when I do that. 100% recommend and I've already downloaded the next one so I'm going to get started on it!

Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

this book was so incredible and powerful. the story was compelling and made me lose lots of sleep because I couldn't turn it off LOL! there was some dialogue towards the end of the book that had me absolutely in tears and texting my best friend demanding that he purchased the book right now because he had to hear it. the performance by Michael Kramer is, as expected, just phenomenal. I'm already starting book two as soon as I post this review. bravo and I can't wait to hear more of this epic tale.

if you have just finished the first three books in The Mistborn Saga, don't start this one yet. read something else, take a break, or whatever you need to do to give yourself some time between Hero Of Ages and this one.
The writing style is just as wonderful as the other books and the narration is simply perfect as always but the sudden shift of everything familiar while in the same universe was jarring. I found it very difficult to get into this one and had to back up multiple times because I couldn't remember what was happening. I want to try reading this one again after I've moved on to something else for a little while so the overwhelming epicness of the first three books in this saga can have some time to cool off in my brain. I think I should be able to give an untainted opinion then lol.

For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. I absolutely loved Christy Golden's other book Vampire of The Mists and was super hopeful for this one. the story didn't feel as natural, some of the bits at the end seemed completely unnecessary and like they were forced in as an afterthought to scramble some incidents together to support the authors last minute change in direction. absolutely fantastic performance though.

Story
Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

This story is so powerful. this is the first book I ever read by Terry Goodkind and I own every book he's ever written. This story was such a beautifully rendered fantasy backdrop to paint the picture of what the author was trying to get across. It was amazing and I will forever rank this as one of my favorites.
