Fun story with some issues
Reviewed: 12-23-23
Overall I like the book but it has two glaring flaws. Fist the audiobook narrator is good but either there wasn’t an editor or they are really bad at their job. Narrator is constantly sniffing or inhaling loudly between sentences. It’s like nails on a chalkboard. Editor should have cut that out. Second is the story is a little flat and disjointed at times. At chapter 40 it goes off the rails in the dumbest pity party, martyr syndrome scenario that makes no real sense.

Story
With every day that passes, the Dark Overlord grows stronger. For Ordinal to be safe, he must be stopped. As Windfall's army grows, so does the hope that Jim will prevail. Jim's got other problems, though, including an inside-out demon, an elf plague, missing townspeople, and a lonely badger. With Jim gone, Fenris tries to hold down the fort, but he has an Assassin running free in Windfall and a prickly pair of royals to deal with. Does Ordinal really stand a chance against the ever growing darkness?

Story
Say hello to the new and improved Clyde Hatchett...who's only a level-four nothing. He's on a (seemingly never-ending) quest to get back to his life in Glaton. And now, all that stands in his way are the Empire-hating Carchedonians, a death cult, and a traitorous party member. Oh, and a mythical city that very probably doesn't exist.

Too short, author is stretching out stories...
Reviewed: 07-24-22
To make more money. This and the last one or two books should have been combined. The author seems to be trying to make more money by taking smaller side stories and stretching them out into short stories that we are paying full price for. Other than that it is still fun.

Story
Follow Clyde on his continuing adventures, as he gets back to Glaton - wait, he promised to visit the City of Darkness. Right. City of Darkness and then back to Glaton. Except...wait. What's wrong with the small coastal town of Furtaxo? Okay, first Furtaxo. If Clyde can get that mystery figured out, then he can move on to the next quest.

Starting to run short
Reviewed: 07-24-22
The author seems to be writing stories that are more episodic adventures that are not really connected to previous books. Its like watching someone's D&D campaign. And its a bit of a monster of the week formula. Fun but he has left watch seems to be the original story behind. The biggest issue I have is the stories are getting too short and the value isn't really there. These last few stories should have been combined rather than separated and stretched out to make short stories that we are paying full price for.

Story
Clyde Hatchett has known he's had a corpse-king inside him, slowly trying to take over his body and raise an army of undead for a while now. And while that may seem like a rather, um, urgent matter to attend to, it's only now, after being forced out of Glaton by his best friends and then having to rescue someone's sister from a bad marriage, that he's actually in a place to deal with it. And he better deal with it quickly, since his entire left hand is starting to look like it belongs to the Crypt-Keeper.

Still a fun if not sprawling story
Reviewed: 07-24-22
So Ugland has pushed away from developing a story that all the books are working towards into a more episodic D&D like adventure where every book isn't really contributing to a centralized story. Still a fun read though.

Clyde Hatchett and the rest of the Skull & Thrones better play their cards right - otherwise their newly formed guild will fall in a war with the Iron Silents, the overpowered immortals fond of spawn-camping and, well, anything that puts them ahead. So much for resting on laurels, huh?

Story
"Has your life here been so difficult? You seem to fail upward at every opportunity." So says Careena, the hag teaching Clyde Hatchett how to use magic. It certainly doesn't feel like that to Clyde, who's still got a day job scraping mud (at least he hopes it's mud) out of monster pits. And yet, Clyde's found himself at the center of a massive conspiracy to kill the Emperor. He's the only one with proof that could save the man, and take down an entire network of corrupt nobles, evil slavers, and power-hungry despots.

Story
Just yesterday, Ben was a petty criminal getting by on fleecing New York’s one-percenters. Today, he's got a new face, a new name, and a new world to navigate. And Ben’s thinking maybe this time around, he’ll use his skills at disarming and deceiving to help out people other than himself. Maybe. Watching a medieval City Guard fight off a 20-foot-tall ooze that crawled up from the sewers will make you think twice about life decisions.
