Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Story
On the treacherous streets of Riverside, a man lives and dies by the sword. Even the nobles on the Hill turn to duels to settle their disputes. Within this elite, dangerous world, Richard St. Vier is the undisputed master, as skilled as he is ruthless--until a death by the sword is met with outrage instead of awe, and the city discovers that the line between hero and villain can be altered in the blink of an eye.

Worth Revisiting!

I got this audiobook 5 years ago and just couldn't get into it. tried it again and wow! it's a slow burn with a fabulously casual queer romance and lots of interpersonal drama. the world felt very much like the setting of a modern fairytale for grown-ups and I savored every moment in it! the audiobook presentation was quite good as well though the sound effects were hit or miss. I quite liked the voice acting and Kushner's reading. will definitely be listening to this one again.

Story
This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

Story
The human soul is hungry for beauty; we seek it everywhere in landscape, music, art, clothes, furniture, gardening, companionship, love, religion, and in ourselves. When we experience the Beautiful, there is a wonderful sense of homecoming; we feel fully alive. Our lives become illuminated, and behind the shudder of appearances we come to glimpse the sure form of things. On Beauty: The Invisible Embrace, Irish poet and philosopher John O'Donohue invites us to remember and to awaken the Beautiful.

Story
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Circe Shines
Reviewed: 08-12-19
This story is a powerful reimagining of Greek mythology, featuring a main character whose struggles and experiences inspire growth and change. The representation of Circe's inner life makes her seem realistic and it's thoroughly enjoyable to see her character develop. It was also interesting to see Greek heroes and myths through the perspective of a powerful and independent woman. I also enjoyed the way the author approached gender relations and sexism in the ancient world.
