Story
The revelations Mark Tudor unearthed on Tactus Ares were profound. The Piraxians fell victim to the aggressive, expansionist Eridani Federation. That same confederacy funded and facilitated the Lyrae. They made Stillness. And the Guild was complicit. How does one bring exposure to something the galaxy at large would rather forget? And how does an honorable man remove corruption when its gravity consumes all? A plan is hatched in secret.

I love the author's attention to detail. Hunter has managed to capture the chaos, promise and sacrifice of the Vietnam era.
He uses this as the tapestry upon which he embroiders a pulse pounding story of heroism, intrigue and the determination of Bob Lee Swagger, an ordinary man, thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
Calling this a "page turner" simply doesn't do it justice.

"Regime change" did not begin with the administration of George W. Bush, but has been an integral part of U.S. foreign policy for more than one hundred years. Starting with the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893 and continuing through the Spanish-American War and the Cold War and into our own time, the United States has not hesitated to overthrow governments that stood in the way of its political and economic goals.

A Must Read

This book lays out in plain language the HISTORY of the United States and our interactions with other nations around the globe.
Corruption in South American countries... why they're not stable is largely due to U.S. intervention, meddling and regime change.
Migrants coming to our borders seeking asylum, are our chickens coming home to roost.
The author gives a tour de force recounting of history... names, dates and places. You come away wondering what might have been, had we only lived up to our expressed ideals.
If you want to understand why the world is the way it is... This book is a good starting point. The only way to prevent our previous mistakes is to understand them.

It Might Have Been So Much More
Reviewed: 03-02-24
The story - for me - had more plot holes than one of my grandmother's doilies. I will endeavor NOT to give the plot away, so I will speak in generalities.
Several famous figures from history have a unique genetic ability. They survive based on secrecy. They are willing to commit atrocities to maintain their secrecy. So far so good.
The book never addresses how they gained their abilities. It never addresses the question of why JUST them. The action sequences suggest, any attempt by science to duplicate their abilities results in only temporary changes to the test subjects.
So again, why the atrocities to protect something exclusive to these people? They've "cornered the market" on it so to speak.
When reading these types of stories - and I do enjoy most of them - one must be willing to suspend disbelief. However, when the journey you're being led on throws plot holes in your path, the resulting questions are so jarring, you're snapped back to reality.
