Willie grew up outside of Damascus, Virginia, and life was never easy for her. She’s a hard-as-nails single mom who struggles to make ends meet with little support and few opportunities. She’s also the community “rescue mom”, taking in young people with no other place to go. All this while dodging an ex-boyfriend turned stalker who also happens to be a cop. Willie only made it to adulthood by being resilient. That toughness, combined with a series of odd jobs and side hustles, helps keep her unorthodox family afloat.

This is just what I was hoping for from Señor Horton. I hope the next one in the series comes quickly. I was a little apprehensive about the new narrator, but she is great. Worthwhile.

Despite the best efforts of Dean, Emmy, Grayson and the other members of the Friday Night Club, the self-appointed leaders of Malibu Country lost their focus. Behind the gates, a handful of vocal of residents, those running the neighborhood's homeowner's association, claimed the ultimate authority over their neighbors. The rule of law, as well as common decency, was cast aside. Tensions boiled over with devastating results.

This is another great series but I wish it continued for a few more books. I’d like to know what happened with Gracen, Lee, and Nicole. Definitely worth the listen. One thing I can count on is great stories from Akart, Horton, Abrahams, etc. if you’re not following all of these authors you’re wrong.

Although I find it hard to believe Gracen would actively choose to live in California with his skill set and background. I understand the necessary position for the character. I appreciate his leadership role and the change from the norm with his battle rifle choice. Ready for the next one.

Not surprising another Akart book is good. Shocked.. not. He has a real skill in making sure that we understand how jacked up our state governments are and how bad our federal government is. If no one is using these novels as a way to identify potential societal dangers in the future, you definitely need to adjust your mindset.
