Hold on for a book 2

Written at the end of Book 1:
I wish I had loved it, but Sweet Lord, by the end, I did not care if the serial killer won, if the actress died, or if the Viscount was arrested. When the narrator says Ch 63…your soul just dies a little. Unless I get these books for free, there’s no way I could sit through another 17 of these.
Written at the end of Book 6: Ok,…. I’m now well past Book 1, and I have to join the fans. After a mind numbingly boring book 1, the magnificent descriptions of Regency England, the meticulous research, AND the amazing characters…I’m a fan. I’m thankful that we aren’t left in an aching 10 book slow burn romance because Hero, Lady Devlin is fantastic.

Maud is magnificent. She would either on Earth. She needs the drama of vampire politics. Her daughter, Helen, is precious. Arland loves her and realizes she had trauma from her idiot ex. Thankfully, author does NOT make us listen to endless angst- which I despise.
Thank you for writing books for adults and not cliched YA mess.
Excellent listen. Can’t wait to see where the Chronicles are going with Dina, Maud, and hopefully, Klaus soon.

Every cliche in the history of romance exists here. This one is: I’m happy being a peasant healer- I don’t want to be a Queen. 🙄 And the absurd feminism in every thought of Luella, “The King is beautiful and I want to know him, but (insert biting knuckles here) I won’t be owned!
Essentially a YA novel that goes exactly where you think it will. I wish that I had known before I’d wasted a credit.
My teen daughter would be all over this, but for adults, it’s just not enough.

I was absolutely thrilled with this story - engaged every second. Such a fun read. The various mythologies were fascinating- especially the interactions amongst other faiths. The narrator is gravel-voiced perfection. If the next book is this tight and fast paced, it will be an immediate purchase.

Lucinda Gainey is so monotone that I was bored the whole time. Couldn’t tell if I were hearing vital info or a minor description. Ruined stories for me.

What started out as a comfy, formulaic fantasy story became a complicated mystery with a magnificently emotional ending. So unexpected and fantastic. Highly recommend.

I’m just too old to listen to hours of angst about how “I don’t care that the gods marked me, I just want to live a Human life. I don’t care that the hottest dude ever wants me, I want the choice to determine who I will love even though I’ve been wandering the world ALONE for 5 yrs.” I just can’t take a trilogy of this juvenile heroine. I’ve listened to this story for 3 hrs and it’s been the same conversation for 2.5 hrs of it. Returning book.

Anything that brings us closer to Dennis Meara is a gift, but Brotherhood goes off in an emotionally exhausting path. It frankly barely lets up. Eve and Roarke are still magnificent together. I could not listen to all the trauma sections. It totally fits in the narrative, but I don’t need that. Absolutely not a criticism, it’s just how much I’ve changed as a reader/listener since I picked up my first In Death book 20yrs ago.
We come back over and over for the relationships and friendships.
There’s a zesty fight, but we can see how much Eve has grown in her love for him because she doesn’t immediately default to “oh he’ll be done with me now.”
Overall an excellent story.

Eve is in insufferable in this book. Having suffered at the hands of a foster mom, she still spends this entire book screaming about the proper authorities being called, foster care being a better place for street kids, etc. She’s cruel to Mavis and criticizes/demonizes a man who takes in street girls and teaches them the grift, thus judging Mavis who is still in touch with him.. Yes, he’s teaching crime, but not every girl can go to proper authorities or group homes. And he probably saved Mavis’s life. Is he using girls? Yep. But he also gave them shelter and food and safety in a messed up world. And even when he’s willing to help, Eve still treats him like a pedo. She also runs around exhausting herself trying to solve murders that are 15 yrs old. There’s no ticking clock- just Eve being rude and judgmental with every human she has contact with - except for Mr Mira. Her love for him is sweet and precious. It’s like 2 different characters.
It’s also pretty boring.
I can honestly say if this was the only book in series that I had ever read- I would have never read another.

This isn’t the typical Dallas mystery. There isn’t a cabal of terrorists or billionaire clone crazies. There’s one bitter, nasty punk with all of NYC to play in. For some reason his kills are insidious because he’s a neighbor who snaps. His lack of intelligence actually messes with Eve. There’s also a very moving scene where both Eve and Roark receive NYPSD’s highest cop and civilian awards. As well as the return of Nixie for some tear jerking at the end. Really felt this one!
