Story
It’s 2006. After a string of rejections from men who tell her they could never, ever, ever see her “that way,” awkward third-grade teacher Micaela Blei signs up for a mysterious course called “The Divine Feminine,” and feels like she might have found the key to the perfect life. Turns out if you’re an A student, you can get an A in anything–including men. Pretty soon she’s learning to "conjure" her desires with vision boards, flirtations, and even a daring jumbotron viewing party for her, ahem ... "divine center."

This is one of the funniest and most insightful books I've ever enjoyed. The story is great, the performance is great, and I'm still wondering how she makes it sound so conversational without a second person 🤔

Story
For the first time in history, we have instantaneous access to the world’s knowledge. There has never been a better time to learn, to contribute, and to improve ourselves. Yet, rather than feeling empowered, we are often left feeling overwhelmed by this constant influx of information. The very knowledge that was supposed to set us free has instead led to the paralyzing stress of believing we’ll never know or remember enough. Now, this eye-opening and accessible guide shows how you can easily create your own personal system for knowledge management, otherwise known as a Second Brain.

I had a head start on this but I think it's an amazing resource for anyone who wants to organize notes beyond a single project, to get compounding gains over time.

When it comes to what we believe, humans see what they want to see. In other words, we have what Julia Galef calls a "soldier" mindset. From tribalism and wishful thinking, to rationalizing in our personal lives and everything in between, we are driven to defend the ideas we most want to believe - and shoot down those we don't.

Perfect other than the Deepok Chopra citation
Reviewed: 09-15-19
I haven't finished the book yet, but decided to rate it once she cited Deepok Chopra. Overall, the book is excellent, but that Chopra quote is a blemish on something which is otherwise near perfect.

Story
Who are the greatest innovators in the world? You're probably thinking Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford - the usual suspects.
This book isn't about them. It's about people who are just as innovative, entrepreneurial, and visionary as the Jobses, Edisons, and Fords of the world, except they're not in Silicon Valley. They're in the street markets of Sao Paulo and Guangzhou, and the rubbish dumps of Lagos. They are pirates, slum dwellers, computer hackers, dissidents, and inner city gang members.

The romantization of crime and pseudoscience was painful. I gave it over about hour to get reasonable, but then I was stuck with it on the train until I got back on WiFi. There wasn't really anything useful, just random anecdotes of low quality. I thought parts of Trevor Noah's Born a Crime addressed this book's topic better than this did.

Story
The Addictive Brain is a fair and balanced investigation of addiction, backed by hard science and behavioral science. Most of us have probably seen the old antidrug commercial in which an actor compares your brain on drugs to an egg sizzling in a hot frying pan. That's a powerful image, but it doesn't tell us what actually happens when drugs enter your body and interact with neurochemical processes.

It felt like more of an amateur YouTube video than something I expected from Audible. The teacher really emphasizing "design" rather than evolution also made me feel like he had some kind of religious agenda.

Story
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

Disappointingly anti-science
Reviewed: 08-19-16
It felt more subjective until the moonlight calories nonsense, but generally the author misunderstands/misrepresents science throughout the book.
