Story
Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic. The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet. Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders....

"Modern vampires", a priest of Ohm, and four witches. Oh, and a fire bird and some Pixies.
Reviewed: 11-28-24
"Modern vanpyres" are invited to the naming of Magret's first born child. They swan in and begin setting up ruling immediately. Agnes is able to slip somewhat due to "Perdita" being in her head too. Grannie Weatherwax is having some issue with the proper number of witches working. An intelligent priest who's having issues with his faith was called for the ceremony as well. Since Ohmnism is now fractured into hundreds of ways of worshiping, mostly debates not killing others now, Pastor Oats is having a bit of a tough go of it. Pixies, Centaurs, and Phoenixes have been cast out of Ubervald, by the Vampyres in charge currently, something must be done about those little buggers. Nanny Og has a, trading relationship with the pixies, mostly to do with strong alcohol so they don't steal cattle. many interesting ends are put forward. Including Igor, the servant of the Magpires, the "modern vampyres", who show him no respect and are changing things that are traditionally vampire! No touches, dribbly candles, or cobwebs also taking away their weaknesses slowly. Garlic is just a seasoning, lost socks are just lost, holy items are just images, etc.
it is up to the Lancor witches to fix things up. . . again.

not like the previous ones

this book goes a ways further in time since the last book available here. I heard several continuity errors, how Jane lost her plat, Miss Fisher's gun being gold instead of pearl handled, but these are minor details. the over arching mystery is a touch more cloak and dagger than the previous entries. It is still an excellent read though. Minor mysteries are allowed to her wards which I approve.

Story
Rincewind, inept wizard and reluctant hero, has found himself magically stranded on the Discworld's last continent. It's hot. It's dry. There was this thing once called The Wet, which no one believes in any more. Practically everything that's not poisonous is venomous. But it's the best bloody place in the world, all right? And in a few days, it will die. The only thing standing between the last continent and wind-blown doom is Rincewind, and he can't even spell wizard. Still...no worries, eh?

Story
For Commander Vimes, Head of Ankh-Morpork City Watch, life consists of troubling times, linked together by...well, more troubling times. Right now, it's the latter. There's a werewolf with pre-lunar tension in the city and a dwarf with attitude and a golem who's begun to think for itself, but that's just ordinary trouble. The real problem is more puzzling - people are being murdered, but there's no trace of anything alive having been at the crime scene.

Poison, gender realizations, heraldry, and a true debate on life. and those are just the under currents. Not wanting to give away the ending, I shan't give the big reveal that Commander Vimes comes to. However there's a large shock about Corporal Knobs near the end. Also Langua and Karrot are building their relationship the best way, "One day at a time." An excellent continuation of the series.

Story
This is the worst thing you can wish on a citizen of Discworld. Especially for the magically challenged Rincewind, who has already had far too much excitement in his life. Unfortunately, the unlucky wizard always seems to end up in the middle of, well, absolutely everything. So when a request for a 'Great Wizzard' arrives from the faraway Counterweight Continent, it's obviously Rincewind who's sent. For one thing, he's the only one who spells wizard that way.

Rincewind is yanked out of peace and tedium, wich he likes, and thrown across the disc. Into dealing with Empirial intrigue, a polite revolutionary faction, and a handful of ancient Barbarians. Fate and Lady Luck's game is marvelous.

This adventure story has everything you could want: the good guy, some bad guys, the girl, sword fighting, revenge, romance, of course a happy ending, and rodents of unusual size. Join Westley the plucky farm boy, Buttercup the beautiful young maiden, Inigo Montoya the driven, embittered swordsman, and many other strange and unusual characters in this swashbuckling tale of good-natured silliness. It is read by Rob Reiner, who directed the motion picture based on this classic tale.

I am a touch upset. I was expecting to hear the full and delightful book, with its many abridgements and addendums to the story. Truth be told it does have the delightful main body of the story as the movie does. I would suggest it for a child's library.
