Story
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

Story
Twilight of the Gods is a riveting account of the harrowing last year of World War II in the Pacific, when the US Navy won the largest naval battle in history; MacArthur made good his pledge to return to the Philippines; waves of kamikazes attacked the Allied fleets; the Japanese fought to the last man on one island after another; B-29 bombers burned down Japanese cities; and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were vaporized. Toll's narratives of combat in the air, at sea, and on the beaches are gripping, but he also takes the listener into the halls of power in Washington and Tokyo.

This is great! Toll has done much more research with diaries and previously classified materials for both sides of the conflict. I read a lot of WWII books, papers and articles, and he still found information I don't remember seeing before. Highly recommend this.

Really enjoyed this. Unfortunately, we are on the road and having maps to follow of the areas covered would have made it more enjoyable. I can listen again once we stay put somewhere. 🙂

Story
In this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, historian Barbara Tuchman brings to life the people and events that led up to World War I. This was the last gasp of the Gilded Age, of Kings and Kaisers and Czars, of pointed or plumed hats, colored uniforms, and all the pomp and romance that went along with war. How quickly it all changed...and how horrible it became.

I had procrastinated reading (listening) to this. I saw top reviews, but I've read books with good reviews before and was not impressed. I figured it was just another celebrity trying to add to the name by writing. For anyone considering this book, I learned how wrong I was. This may be one of the best books I've read in some time. (Admittedly there is one other in mind, but it's the only one I can think of at the moment.)
I like audio books, especially those read by the author as this is. I hear the emotion behind the words, and Lemon wasn't afraid to express such. I don't know what more to say than it is exceptional. He says it's what he says with friends, and I felt I was included with his message.
Thank you, Don Lemon. I wish you and yours the best as you continue this life journey and that you see most of your work be fruitful.

It's amazing how we don't pay attention to history and suffer the repetition of it. This time it's unfortunately occurring in the U.S. with the rejection of those not of European ancestry. Simply disgusting behavior of our leaders.

Boondocking literally means to "dock" in the "boonies," camping on your own off the grid away from campgrounds, free to howl at the moon, run around in your BVDs, or just read your book in peace and quiet with no one around. But boondocking also means you're on your own, and you'll want to go prepared. Here, Sunny Skye gives you the basics you'll need to know, things like the best rig to have, being independent, coping with boredom and loneliness, as well as dealing with insects, wild animals, and pests.

Really enjoyed both the writing and the reading. I like learning about dinosaurs, and the book is written in such a manner that an uneducated layperson such as myself can understand and thoroughly enjoy. The narrator appeared to enjoy it as well, and is versed in the subject. There was no stumbling with the names of the lesser-known animals or areas in which they were found. It's a fun book and very educational.
