The storyline and characters were interesting, well developed and enjoyable. I was engaged throughout the book. Narration was good except for the slurring, over-stylized voice attributed by Xe Sands. Much of the time it was difficult to understand at all. Still, overall a great listen.

Well written with interesting characters. This book gives insight into some of the challenges faced during the second world war, with regard to the spy networks and extreme difficulties, faced by this country, and by allies. Anyone who enjoys World War II history will love this book, as I did.

Story
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Historical fiction is my favorite genre and this book did not disappoint. Recommended to me by a friend of many years, it fleshes out a subject I had previously been unaware of and expanded a few I had only passing knowledge of. Fascinating, well written, a truly engaging and, at the same time, informative read.

Historically accurate and grips attention even in the more difficult parts of the narrative.
Karen Brooks does her research well and her narrator is well chosen - appropriate and excellent accent without being so strong it’s difficult for a U.S. native to understand.
