Milne’s Pooh Poetry is charmingly engaging. There is an affinity for Christopher Robin and the Pooh characters which is enduring in its ability to engage generation after generation. Share them with you children and grandchildren. It’s like introducing a dear group of friends to your loved ones.
The Narrator, Peter Dennis, does a great job. Loads of enthusiasm and wonder in his delivery.

Story
Every physicist agrees quantum mechanics is among humanity's finest scientific achievements. But ask what it means, and the result will be a brawl. For a century, most physicists have followed Niels Bohr's Copenhagen interpretation and dismissed questions about the reality underlying quantum physics as meaningless. A mishmash of solipsism and poor reasoning, Copenhagen endured, as Bohr's students vigorously protected his legacy, and the physics community favored practical experiments over philosophical arguments.

While cells are commonly considered the building block of living things, it is actually the communication between cells that brings us to life, controlling our bodies and brains, determining whether we are healthy or sick, and directly influencing how we think, feel, and behave. In The Secret Language of Cells, doctor and neuroscientist Jon Lieff lets us listen in on these conversations, and reveals their significance for everything from mental health to cancer.

I love science that gives you new insight. This one was loaded.
I had no idea how versatile and seemingly intelligent our cells are. The myriad complexities of the various types of cells gives one new respect for what an amazingly complex thing our bodies are. And not just ours but the microbiome within and without. when something is this complex and detailed, it bears listening to again and again. I was dazzled with new insight. There was so much I wasn't aware of. It's definitely worth listening to more than once.

Most of us take for granted the features of our modern society, from air travel and telecommunications to literacy and obesity. Yet for nearly all of its six million years of existence, human society had none of these things. While the gulf that divides us from our primitive ancestors may seem unbridgeably wide, we can glimpse much of our former lifestyle in those largely traditional societies still or recently in existence.

I liked Guns, Germs & Steel. This one, not at all. It was really about his experience in the Pacific Islands with natives. I just couldn't find the connection. I guess I was hoping for a macro understanding of the evolution of civilization. What I got instead was a micro focus on a period of time he spent with third world (or maybe fourth) natives. There is so much between this subject and where we were in our recent past. It was, in a word, boring.

Maps have a mysterious hold over us. Whether ancient, crumbling parchments or generated by Google, maps tell us things we want to know, not only about our current location or where we are going but about the world in general. And yet, when it comes to geo-politics, much of what we are told is generated by analysts and other experts who have neglected to refer to a map of the place in question.

This one was a struggle to finish.. There was plenty of interesting and unique information and perspectives in it. the problem here is that it was all over the place with no continuity in terms of time or geography.
The publisher would do well to re-edit this and find a way to bring continuity to the subject.
The narrator could have been better but overall was acceptable.

This is an invaluable addition to my library and I listened to it several times. It's enlightening and helped me understand how neural receptors and a natural chemical in our brain can be the driving factor in how we succeed, how we perceive the world around us, and what motivates us to do what we do.
The ability to look at genetic factors allowed science to put the pieces of this puzzle together. This one is definitely worth the read/listen.

Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

Americans are eating our way to our graves. Forget about alcohol, drugs, or stress. Every time we sit down to eat and choose some indulgence instead of what will nurture our bodies, we inch closer to our grave. I got my husband to listen to it as well and he's on board too. We both want to live our lives without being a source of income for the pharmaceutical industry. This book showed us the way.
Dr. Fung's book has taken the curtain from in front of my eyes. I felt like a big glaring "THE TRUTH ABOUT EATING" sign pointed the way to a healthier and happier life. It motivated me to think carefully about what I eat and when. It isn't about losing weight, though that did happen for both of us. It's about controlling insulin levels and giving the body a chance to reset itself naturally.
It took a commitment but I can already see changes. It is about living, not slowly killing yourself with food. Both of us started intermittent fasting with three meals a day but only over an eight hour time slot. After that, the kitchen's closed. We do have a cheat day once a week which allows us the opportunity to have the occasional indulgence but not go crazy. Believe me, there is PLENTY of good tasting food that won't bump up your insulin level. You don't need to starve, EVER!
I recommend this book for anyone who has diabetes, is pre-diabetic, or wants to just stay healthy. It was an eyeopener for both of us.

Incredible information as discussed by insiders. This is something we all lived through over the past 4 years. I recall each incident as it was reported in the news. so much happened that event blurred into the next.
In this book we get to see the machinations and miscalculations that caused so much chaos over president Trump's time in the White House.
I hope someday to see Woodward cover the events which brought us up to January 6th and the storming of our capital. I hope in time, we will know the truth.
Regardless of your affiliation, appreciation or lack thereof n regards to Trump's presidency, every adult in the United States should read this book.
Thanks to Bob Woodward and Audible for making it easier.

Story
For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses map-like structures to build a model of the world - not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought.

I have listened to this one twice already because at certain times, the revelations were coming too close to fully understand them. I am so glad there are scientists and writers who can codify the knowledge into something even a neophyte can understand.
I love that moment that cognizance combines with comprehension and the light of understanding flashes on. Often it leads to a chain reaction of understanding. It is such a visceral feeling that it makes me smile. It's invigorating when you get the message and somewhat self satisfying to know you have the mental capacity to do so.
