Earth is conquered. The Shongairi have arrived in force, and humanity’s cities lie in radioactive ruins. In mere minutes, over half the human race has died. True scifi fans will hate the ending
Reviewed: 12-08-24
The very ending goes from scifi to ( spoiler alert) to vampires. I felt cheated by the ending and don't bother with the second book it just continues along that line, and yes I wasted a credit on it. listened for a half hour and just removed it from my library.
One other thing as others have stated the narrator was a bad choice, a British like accent for US characters just doesn't work. I have to admit I'm not fond of British narrators, they all sound like butlers to my ears.

Story
A time-travel adventure that just might make you a believer. The Time Machine by H. G. Wells was fun, as was the enjoyable A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and Jack Finney's delightful Time and Again. If you enjoyed these books, you’ll definitely want to read Mission in Time. However, after reading Mission in Time, this might be the first time you actually find yourself believing in time travel. Imagine being sent on a time-travel mission expecting to arrive in a certain period of time and finding yourself in a very different era—a major period in the history of the United States....

Worth a listen if you like time travel stories. The virtual voice reader was actually quite good. I've listened to much much worse real life readers. Definitely worth a listen.

Top notch writing
Reviewed: 02-06-24
If you like good character development and thought provoking writing this book is for you. If you crave the modern predictable cookie SciFi so common today this book may not be for you. This book has some action but not a lot. It's a long audio book which I like and story develops a bit slowly and I was fine with how it came along. The reader was quite good. It seems like there may be a second book and I look forward to listening that one also. Overall I highly recommend this book if you like good thought provoking writing.

Warning, book ends forces buy of next In series
Reviewed: 08-24-23
like my title I really dislike authors that play the leave you hanging making you buy the next book in the series routine. In this case I'm walking away. This book is really a young adult or younger book. Highly predictable and easily predictictable for more sophisticated listeners. That being said it wasn't really a bad book for the age group I mentioned. The narrator was OK but put a man's voice into to some female characters
which was a bit off putting.

I am not a fantasy fan. last fantasy I read was the Hobbit In 1971 (the only decent read in the whole series, just my opionion). Gave the first book in this sreies a try, struggled threw it and gave up by the third chapter in this book. If this yout thing fine have at it.
Some reviewers say its like a video game, quite true. The reader reads quite quickly and enunciation is rather poor. I had to slow hithe narration down to .85, something I never do. There are better narrators out their.

Tyrel Sackett was born into trouble but vowed to justice. After having to kill a man in Tennessee, he hit the trail west with his brother Orrin. Those were the years when decent men and women lived in fear of Indians, rustlers, and killers, but the Sackett brothers worked to make the West a place where people could raise their children in peace. Orrin brought law and order from Santa Fe to Montana, and his brother Tye backed him up every step of the way. Till the day the job was done, Tye Sackett was the fastest gun alive.
