Good with plot twists

There’s literally a scene in the middle that calls you out on guessing the wrong plot twist lol. I liked the characters, but the book does drop character perspective- like we spend most of the book through one person, then it drops and shifts to others, to the point the main character you started with isn’t the main character at the end of the book. It’s not bad for that, it’s more of a preference.

I enjoyed the story, I also liked how it took pets for other Star Wars, like mentions of Satine or Sharad Hett. Thought Orrins character was really good in this back and forth game of is he likeable or not. Enjoyed seeing more inside the Tusken Raider culture.

I thought I would have a harder time listening to this one- because it’s just buildup to a natural disaster, but leave to Crichton to figure out how to make the build up so tense. Warning though- like most of his books, you can be caught up in scientific jargon and dialogue moments. But that’s really been his style of writing

Intense gore and story that pulls no punches. No one is safe, and you know it reading it. Very intense! Some might have a complaint about how it takes the story quite a bit of time to actually get to the zombie part, but it laid down an exciting foundation- You are definitely not just sitting there waiting for zombies to just show up, rather building up anticipation and mystery. Also characters are well written and have surprising depth at times, even the bad guys.

When it comes to narration, it depends on if you like Sam Witwer- (the voice of Darth Maul and Starkiller in Star Wars) and his acting. I personally deeply enjoy it- say for instance, he changes his tone in narration so that you can tell who the chapter is going to be about before the character is even introduced, really helping you be immersed. I can absolutely understand if it’s too dramatic for some- but if you love how he voice acts, you’ll love the narration.

I was afraid I would have a hard time with a more nonfiction book, but it tells the story through the animals in such a way it’s much easier to grasp than I thought. Keep in mind though, like the title says it’s about the extinction- it was still very good talking about the struggles and how life persisted and shaped after the extinction, but if you are here to purely listen to something about dinosaurs this might not be for you. That being said I learned so much, and the way it is written really pulls you in, as it zooms in on the lives of a diverse array of creatures throughout time.
