Story
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

I had watched the movie which I usually don't do until after I've read the book, but I wanted to get a feel for the whole story and I'm glad I got the book now. it definitely has a lot more details and explain some things better. like a good story should, there are moments where you're just so angry and sad at reality so many people faced in the not so distant past and you can't help but laugh at the wins and cheer for the courage it took to do something, to try to just make people think a little bit differently. excellent read and worth purchasing

Story
Joel lives in a nursing home, and he’s not one bit happy about it. He hates being told when to eat, when to sleep, when to take his pills. He’s fed up with life and begins to plan a way out when his new roommate, a retired soap opera actor named Frank, moves in and turns the nursing-home community upside down.

character driven story that reminds us being old doesn't mean you're done living
Reviewed: 03-15-24
first of all the audio performers were spot on and wonderful. for being a deep point of view and dialogue driven story. you found yourself rooting for characters and feeling sympathy for situations and having your eyes opened a little bit to how we can take for granted sometimes older people, their bodies are one age but their minds are usually a completely different one and they want to feel useful again instead of just waiting around to die and this story really touched me in that regard. lots of humor and of course Frank steals the show but watching the way he helped the lead character intentionally and unintentionally was like watching a flower opening very slowly. the payoff was worth the wait

Story
When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye. To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly.

Ada steals the show
Reviewed: 02-06-24
let me start by saying I could not listen to Ada's character without visualizing Samantha from Sex in the City. Not her sexy side, more her zest for life and confidence and ability to put someone in their place with class. no time for nonsense, take Life by the horns and make it whatever you want. but do it with style. yes Ada is the reason I continued to listen to this entire story because though Marilyns character Arc grew as one should, I just didn't care about her story. we should all have a great aunt Ada in our life .yes the overall story was entertaining enough where I wanted to finish the book but not memorable enough to refer it.

I've always liked Brittany even when she seemed to be "going off the rails"....I don't want to say hearing her version of Truth was satisfying, because her story is infuriating and her despair can be felt throughout much of the first decade of the 2000s. satisfaction isn't necessarily the right word , but as someone who truly wondered how she was doing and what was going on with the Justin crap and then kevin, especially crazy Kevin, and the way the paparazzi constantly made her out to look like a bad mother and insane, I knew the truth lay somewhere in the middle. nothing she informed truly surprised me because as she mentioned, her Southern ingrained kindness and need to please was not matched for her Skyrocket to stardom and the masculine ideaology-type world she entered. ultimately I think her story gives her raw truth without her coming off as 'feel sorry for me, oh look at how bad I have it, everyone else is to blame.'... she owns her mistakes but she does shed light on the cause and effect that other people's actions can have on sending you down a spiral -especially if your mental health is on a razor wire. Brittany- you will always have a fan in me, and as a 46 year old mother of two and a massage therapist, and a wife of a man who loved his liquor a little too much in the past and left a lot of emotional scars behind,( one of which is much the same as the one Justin left you with, towards the end of your relationship), I stand in solidarity with you. Thank you for sharing things that I'm sure were extremely painful to relive.

Story
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

I'm all about the main character growing and developing as the story continues but this MC had zero backbone and was a total doormat for everybody. there were multiple occasions for her to grow in character. Kate was beyond obnoxious. there was pretty much nothing likeable about her. regardless of her backstory . she was shallow and just did not like her . then add The Voice by Lily, that just added dislike towards the character almost to the point of being unfinishable. I wish this was a book as I would have read this as opposed to listening just because of Lily's voice.
the story was mediocre. I honestly don't know why this had any five star reviews. I guess these people have never actually listened to a five-star audible before. the writer might be funny in her own Circle of Friends or like-minded types but she tries way too hard with this story. I understand it's supposed to be goofy and not take itself too seriously but all the dialogue with Frank and Sybil and Robicus.... total Overkill and forced humor.

I had a feeling hope was going to play into this because her light and then something she does to wake Darcy at the end sealed the deal for me that she was a big player in this and with only 15 minutes left of the story I knew something had to be a cliffhanger. awesome continuation of part one and just a great overall story. hurry up Beacham, part 3 needs to be heard!

For decades, Demi Moore has been synonymous with celebrity. From iconic film roles to high-profile relationships, Moore has never been far from the spotlight - or the headlines. Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Throughout her rise to fame and during some of the most pivotal moments of her life, Demi battled addiction, body image issues, and childhood trauma that would follow her for years - all while juggling a skyrocketing career and at times negative public perception.

I appreciate how she shares her accountability for the decisions both good and bad that she's made that led to things that have happened. Thank you , Demi, for sharing these " how did I get here" moments , and giving us a peek into your/your family's private life. definitely recommend if you are a fan of hers or Bruce's

this is how an immersive Horror Story should be do
Reviewed: 02-23-23
first let me address the people who are surprised that this is not a single narration, or comparing it to that, and low starring... this is an immersive story, this is not your typical audible narrated listen. if you're looking for that then move on .
my new favorite way to listen to audible are these new immersive stories. this one was a little bit more narrative and not all acted out like some of them are, and initially I didn't think it was going to like that but it worked. the story was creepy, the gore was good without being over the top. and some of the imagery that you can create with an immersive story, could probably give you nightmares. I liked it a lot and I really liked the willets, the characters you could really get behind, you cared about them, you felt the losses with them and their wins. well done. more like this please

Reviewed: 02-16-23
I'm trying to be very unbiased and honest in my review. The acting was phenomenal, and I understand the core points between the old dog catcher and the new dog catcher is Gen X versus gen Z- they're not getting along and they're clashing- it leads the story ,about how they have to work together, being so different, to conquer this Beast together. That I can actually deal with. BUT, every liberal Viewpoint that seems to be an issue these days is thrown in the story, from homosexuality to women versus men, women's lib, old people versus young people, old people are stupid, young people..... Most of current youth terminologies are littered through this story ,like the trash it is. it was just too much and it bogged the actual Story down .

so maybe it's the mama bear in me but I think the consequences should have been dished out a lot harsher than they were in the end. I understand why the decisions were made like they were but I just didn't like them. however the story was good and the narration was great for all characters involved and you got a sense of each character so it was well done. overall I would recommend the book. I kind of guessed what was going to happen in the first scene of Sasha dealing with her daughter Bailey because there was such a disconnect but it didn't take away from how it rolled up in the end. and I like how Donnie had the right reaction. Sasha however, needs to end up with concrete shoes in my opinion ,dropped off the nearest deep hoke, but that's just me
