Story
On a serene night in 1953, Sally Mason, a dedicated wife and mother of two, drives a twisting road on her way home from night school. Suddenly, a mysterious bluish-white light descends over the road. Terrified, Sally slams on the brakes. After a flash of bright light nearly blinds her, she passes out, awakening to the persistent knock of a police officer on her car window. When she sees the officer and remembers her frightening experience, she screams and faints, and is rushed to the hospital.

Although a little slow at times ( I guess it would be fast for the 50’s but slow these days), it was an excellent concept and a good story with a happy ending

Story
Esme Cahill thinks she has failed spectacularly: fired from her New York City publishing job, divorced from her husband, and possessing little more than a broken-down car and a pile of unfinished manuscripts, she drives home to Asheville at the request of her late grandmother, Adele, who had begged her, just before she died, to return to the place she grew up. There she discovers the once-charming lakeside retreat run by her family is sliding toward financial ruin.

The stories all came together for an enjoyable journey through life here on earth. Examples of over the top judgements and refusal to learn more about the area being judged are through out and can be frustrating to the listener as hopefully being unrealistic but most are resolved with time.

Her parents are gone, the family bookstore is all but bankrupt, and her sister, Sophie, will probably never speak to her again. Short But Has it All
Reviewed: 08-17-24
Finely tuned short story that crams a lot in a small amount of time. Sister, niece, boyfriend, fun dog, redemption, and HEA all in about an hour. It is high quality efficiency at its best. Of course with all good stories I wish it had been fleshed out more for a longer story but could also appreciate leaving out the minors and focusing only on the majors.

The story was overly long but good with an HEA. They were fun together but seemed to always worry about why they should not be enjoying themselves even as they are having a great time. It was a little frustrating but seemed okay for this story.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

My kind of Story

I like clean romance saturated with business goals and processes. The family dynamics seemed a little extreme but allowed for easier decision clarity. This reminded me of an adult version of a Nancy Drew mystery.

My agent has this idea—an insanely bad idea—to reboot my Hollywood heartthrob status by having my long-lost love dump me… while I'm proposing to her on national TV. The theory? Women everywhere will swoon over poor Lincoln James, scrambling to repair his vulnerable, shattered heart. Trouble is, I don't have any kind of love—long, lost, or otherwise. To play my fake girlfriend, my agent enlists Hadley Morgan, my secret college crush. The one who dragged me to an audition that launched my career but left her in the dust.

I love strong women characters that are not afraid to live their convictions. Mostly the good people are good and the few bad people are bad with a small number in between. Good Christian theme with a happy ending.

I liked the overall story and all the associated characters. The child and all the interactions with her were a lot of fun and meaningful to the plot. The friends were very supportive and were what we would all want. I had to skip past the areas of the story that were added for some of the female readers and I am sure those areas were also okay.

Story
Gareth’s sole bequest is an old family diary, which may or may not contain the secrets of his past...and the key to his future. The problem is - it’s written in Italian, of which Gareth speaks not a word. To Hyacinth, Gareth’s every word seems a dare, and she offers to translate his diary, even though her Italian is slightly less than perfect. But as they delve into the mysterious text, they discover that the answers they seek lie not in the diary, but in each other...and that there is nothing as simple - or as complicated - as a single, perfect kiss.

This was a fun story but had some deceitful thoughts, plans, and actions that I did not like personally but it gave opportunities for forgiveness. Also, I did need to fast forward through some areas that were added for some of the women readers. Good story, good performance, and good ending.
