Great Wizard Series. Finally something where the main character is intelligent and only a little bit over the top self sacrificing.

Story
In the realm of Isodoro, just two things stand between Alliance lands and the spears and muskets of the orcish hordes: the wizards of the Order and constant infighting amongst the orcs themselves. In the Alliance capital, young Wit has just been promoted from apprentice to full wizard - and saddled with the very unglamorous task of traveling to a distant iron mine to inspect it for fraud. Worse yet, he's partnered with Wa'llach, a drunken dwarven prisoner who's killed more people than most plagues. Yet those skills are about to become very handy.

Story is bland, main character is a Mary Sue archetype
Reviewed: 07-20-24
Narrator's cadence is absolutely terrible. I just couldn't listen to this anymore. I tried, I really tried, but between the terrible cadence and main character with litteral plot armor...I just couldn't anymore. His luck stat is the dues machina for every situation to the massive detriment of the story. If you want to have a male voice lul you to sleep, then this book is for you. that constant unvaried tempo will do just that.

This whole book is 50% stats
Reviewed: 02-11-24
I don't mind stats that much but when you start having almost more stat listing than actual story, there is a problem. just because it finishes strong doesn't make up for the endless slog of skill ups and percentage gains. Most of the stats aren't even that impactful. it's impossible to keep track of their impact so why even bother listing them?

about a 6th of the book is recapping situations before a character does a thing. can be helpful to know the characters reasoning, but gets tedious when it's done this much

Great series in its own right but the author need to immediately strike the word immediately from his immediate vocabulary. I think I've been traumatized by its over use. Mostly this was in book 3,but I still flinch whenever it's used now.
