Story
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

I couldn't finish it
Reviewed: 08-12-22
I couldn't even get past the first few chapters. I've never seen a more pathetic principle female character, which is even more disappointing that it was written by a female author. The principle character is supposed to be 31 years old, but she has the maturity and gumption of a 5 year old, and that's not being very kind to 5 year olds. I wanted to scream half the time, and I wanted to be able to slap our heroine and hope that she would start acting like a rational adult. I cannot recommend this book.

Story
London’s Slough House is where the washed-up MI5 spies go to while away what’s left of their careers. The “Slow Horses,” as they’re called, have all disgraced themselves in some way to get relegated here. Maybe they messed up an op badly, or got in the way of an ambitious colleague. Maybe they just got too dependent on the bottle—not unusual in this line of work. One thing these failed spies have in common, though, is they all want to be back in the action. Now the Slow Horses have a chance at redemption.
