oof. IMO derivative and too similar to Alansons ExFor series with less if the chuckles. Good fun if you're into firearms porn, I guess.

The prologue is the best part of the story. The rest of the book is repetitive and frankly boring. it's free on Audible plus, which is a net positive.

The characters weren't especially well developed, and the third act seemed to start very suddenly, with the buildup to the climax being...um...abbreviated at best.
Not all that interested in book 2.

Once again (it seems to happen every few years) I relearn that just because a title costs less than the Audible credit can actually cost more than the audible credit. With Credits, you can return the title and if you pay up front...you can't.
I was hoping for a horror novel, and what I got was a lot of graphic erotica with the only thing scary being some of the descriptive prose.
I'll never look at a stick of butter or a sea sea anemone in quite the same way. Read a few of the more critical reviews on Goodreads, as some of them have excerpted some of the more eye rolling portions of the book.

repetitive battles, too much of the trope of overcoming overwhelming bodds to win in the end.bbHow many times were the heroes on the edge of death to just come right back to snatch victory from the laws of defeat?I see that it has multiple books in the series. I got this one due to curiousity and of course for the narration by RC Bray.Doubt I'll be checking in on the next volumes unless they wind up as free downloads.

His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Twenty-five years ago, Maggie Holt and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. Three weeks later they fled in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His horror memoir of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity — and skepticism.

Struck initially by being a not so subtle variation of Amityville Horror.
Slow and plodding, just found it annoying. Lots of people seem to like this title, but I think this puts me in the one and done for "Riley Sager."

One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Leonard is the largest man Wen has ever seen, but he is young, friendly, and he wins her over almost instantly. Leonard and Wen talk and play until Leonard abruptly apologizes and tells Wen, “None of what’s going to happen is your fault.”

Read any Tremblay before? Third book in, and I'm out.
Ambiguity in your books shouldn't be a trademark. Maybe gird your loins and commit to an ending. So done with "it was supernatural....or was it? " endings.
I know many people love his style, but I'm done. This book was a slog that I threw in the towel on.
