Totally Detached

Where is everyone. I thought Carpathian's were a community. We have a mostly demon escaping, they say is going to kill everyone, female Carpathian's guarding the gates alone, yet nobody has alerted the prince or anyone else in the Carpathian Mountains. I was hoping we were done with this storyline.

I think what I enjoyed most was that the heroine knew from the beginning that she was lifemate to a Carpathian. It wasn't that back and forth. She was strong and independent and didn't need him to save her all the time.

The body was left in a dumpster like so much trash, the victim a woman of no fixed address, known for offering paper flowers in return for spare change - and for keeping the cops informed of any infractions she witnessed on the street. But the notebook where she scribbled her intel on litterers and other such offenders is nowhere to be found. Then Eve is summoned away to a nearby building site to view more remains - in this case decades old, adorned with gold jewelry and fine clothing - unearthed by recent construction work.

Body found in one of Roarke's properties, First I thought, didn't we just have that a few books ago. However, I really liked the story and the change in dynamics between Eve and Peabody. For the last few books, she is coming across as a more seasoned Detective.

"Just three dates. That's all I'm asking. One boy shares your sense of humor. Another has similar interests and ideals. The third boy has a helpful heart like yours." When Aditi Gupta comes home late from work as a pediatric resident one night and her grandfather offers this pitch, she reluctantly agrees. She's far too busy with med school to be dating, and besides, she dreams of a love for the ages, like her parents, not an arranged marriage. And yet she finds herself agreeing to three dates because she loves her grandfather. All she has to do is make herself utterly ineligible.

Story
When Anna wakes up from a coma after a car crash, she discovers life has gone on without her. Her husband has been unfaithful - with her best friend - and she’s been long since replaced at work. While her old life is a distant memory, her new life feels like an empty shell. Then she meets the stranger who saved her life during the crash, and he changes everything. Leif Larsen - tattooist, joker, and player - has his own scars thanks to the crash that put Anna in a coma. Helping her move on from her failed marriage, and create a new life, sounds like a perfect distraction.

He awakens encapsulated in dirt with no knowledge of how he came to be there. Riddled with injuries, he can remember neither his past nor who he is. Nor can he remember what he is. But surely no mortal man could survive being buried deep beneath the earth. All he knows with certainty is that the soothing voice and presence of the woman moving around above enables him to endure the agony of his wounds. And he will do whatever it takes to be with her.

Story
On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan's neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel's best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel's blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.

I'm still a fan of the series and Susan is excellent. The last two books were just cookie cutter and boring. Robb needs to do something to alter the formula. I won't pre-order the next one.

What would have made Secrets in Death better?
I don't know what would have made the book better. It seems that most of the story was unnecessary. In trying to make the story complex, to me it turned out flat and completely obvious.
Has Secrets in Death turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I will still follow the Series
Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listen to all the In Death Series. Ericksen's performances was excellent as always.
What character would you cut from Secrets in Death?
None. The only thing I liked about this book was that all of our favorite characters were present.

Story
US law enforcement agent Heather Lane can read minds but not the future. The dream of battle and blood that recurs every night must be a fluke, some obscure terror from her own mind. What its significance might be, she can't guess: an attack from seven psychotic vampires at once, only separated from nightmare by an eighth very different immortal. A handsome, brave man fighting at her side, a man she misses when she wakes.
