Grateful for the time these people have invested to bring these stories to light. Things don’t improve if we keep them hidden. Truth and transparency are not without pain but they are necessary to move forward in a positive direction

Achingly beautiful and brutally real!!
Reviewed: 09-25-24
I loved the emotional depth and how the path Frankie takes is one you can identify with… but also so hard to watch when it falls apart. I hated when I could see something terrible was going to happen to her but that I could see myself responding the same way if I were her. Great historical storytelling without being a doom and gloom war story but a true representation of what a persons life could be like during that time. Pulled at every emotion I have .

Story
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Story
Roger Stringer grew up in rural Mississippi, hunting and eating everything from deer to rabbits. When he had two sons, Zac and Justin, he gave them guns and took them to the woods as well. Then one day when the boys were home alone, he got a call from Zac that Justin had been shot. What follows is an intimate and gripping memoir about the shooting’s aftermath. The story moves between the perspectives of Roger and Zac as they take us through their journey of betrayal, redemption, and ultimately confrontation with a company that had kept its corruption a secret for decades.

Fighting for what’s right!
Reviewed: 01-06-24
The story is real and doesn’t deny lies and real bad choices this scared young man made. He doesn’t deny that he was irresponsible, but the fact remains- Remington had a chance to save both of these boys lives, one literally and one from going to prison, and they, Remington, chose to try and cover their asses instead of admitting that this was a problem. Being a kid and being reckless and irresponsible is hardly unusual- being a national giant like Remington, and having the opportunity to save lives and choosing not to for the love of money is heartbreaking but also not unusual.

I love all of the Jenny Cooper stories. This one was a little too heavy on the airplane tech- I think it had to be for the story to make sense. I like being able to work out what has happened and this topic limited that but they are enjoyable always!

Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.
