Story
This charming piece of social observation throws a gentle spotlight on life in a small village in northern England of the 1850s. The middle-aged ladies, existing in rather impoverished circumstances, nevertheless maintain the rules of politeness which they feel they should live by.

Wonderful Period Novel
Reviewed: 05-20-22
I saw the BBC adaptation and loved it and wanted to read the book. The audible adaptation was charming. The narrator was smooth and entertaining, the writing witty and humorous, and I loved the changes in narrator's voice To suit the speaker and the period music added in. recommending to friends!

One of my new favorite books ever
Reviewed: 01-17-19
I have been wanting to read this book for a long time and now that I have finished, I can say that it is one of the best and most touching books ever written. It moves you and makes you want to be a changed and better person and also to begin a more focused effort to lift others around you. It makes you realize how very precious is each and every moment of our life and how much we take for granted. Miss Ten Boom has changed the lives of so many and continues to do so.
I completed it today and plan to restart it immediately. This is the first time I will instantly restart a just-finished audible book.
The narrator is fantastic. You can hear the author's personality coming through and she does a wonderful job voicing all the different characters.
Just fabulous!!

Story
Austen wrote, 'I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like' and thus introduces the handsome, clever, rich - and flawed, Emma Woodhouse. Emma is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage; nothing however delights her more than matchmaking her fellow residents of Highbury. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected.

this is one of my favorite stories. Such a treat to be able to listen to it narrated by Emma Thompson, along with the music score and believable background noises.
Loved it!
