I wanted to dislike this book so bad I actually could not wait to finish it so I could come one here and talk about how often about how awful it was and I could not understand for the life of me why in the world it was getting such high reviews. This is a book that is definitely a diamond and the rough. I was so so annoyed by the slow storyline 😒 and I needed some action SOMETHING!!!!!! the narrator was so monotone and her voice just didn't seem fitting for a young girl. I listened and listened and listened yawning then BAM!!! we've got ACTION! I'm so glad I finished I was full at the end with happiness and emotion and finally satisfied.

I really really wanted to love this book but I ended up just kind of Sort of liking it . The narrator was completely amazing , but the in story there were so many parts that were long and drawn out and just frankly seemed unnecessary . I kept listening and listening and listening waiting for some shock factor that I never did even receive it it was OK. I love the Black girl Magic and the power behind it and this book did indeed do that, but the story was just meh and looonngg.

Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

once the story got going I couldn't put it down. There are some really hard parts to listen to bc it involves hurting children and these things actually happened. I knew nothing about this horrible scandal until I read this book. The author was amazing. If you can endure listening to some unpleasant things that happened to children this is a great book of strength and triumph.
