I had heard accounts about life in North Korea but nothing so clear, so real, so detailed. This author explains how life is in North Korea from childhood through adulthood, why people want to escape it and the perils of escaping it. I was totally absorbed in what she was saying. My mind could see the scenes as she was describing them. I had planned to listen to the book in segments when I had free time, but once I started listening I couldn’t stop.

I know it’s fiction, but still an implausible story line. Predictable as well. Not Marthaler by any stretch of the imagination.

The first 3/4 of the book seems scattered & disjointed & atypical of a true Patterson novel. It had me questioning who co-wrote this one. It came together some at the last 1/4, but not enough for me to rationalize how the previous chapters seemed so disjointed & flighty.

This writing style & skill seem to belong to an inexperienced writer & the storyline is rudimentary, slow, and predictable. This book didn’t make me think of a Grisham book at all.

An interesting book with a good storyline. The use of different narrators Was a good choice. I am left feeling as though there’s something missing as the story abruptly ends with no real build up.

The scientist had an uplifting idea, but no real discernible scientific basis for his hypothesis that he presents as facts.
