Amazing characters

I really love this series! I look forward to reading them all. One thing- “Special Forces” is a term for Green Berets only. They are part of Army Special Operations (spec ops) as are Rangers, and SOAR/Night Stalkers. Other branches have spec ops too.

Unique story
Reviewed: 03-12-24
The narrator’s voice for the main character was very annoying. She always sounded like she was hysterical and on the verge of tears. Whiny and grating. She was supposed to be a headstrong and a powerful novice, but she was constantly apologizing, cowering and whimpering. The story was pretty good. It was a unique premise and magic system, but it was boring in parts and the story got stagnant. It was free. So…

The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

The characters were bold and interesting. Unique magic system. Females were portrayed as capable as their male counterparts and did not require saving. No eye rolling romantic entanglements. The labyrinth scenes in the ruins were intense. I can’t wait for the next one!

Danielle giggled, Lily chuckled
Reviewed: 12-09-23
I don’t understand. Danielle frowned. Walt grinned. Danielle’s phone rang. She walked to pick up the phone. Danielle answered the phone. Walt listened to Danielle talk on the phone. Danielle hung up the phone and told Walt she was on the phone. Walt grimaced. Danielle pouted. Danielle looked at the couch. Danielle sat on the couch. Walt asked who was on the phone. Danielle didn’t understand. What do you mean? You were on the phone, Walt said. I was? Danielle didn’t understand. Walt chucked and Danielle giggled. Chapter 2
Danielle made everyone the best cookies and cake and served them on a tray. Heather whined. Chris mumbled. Ian pulled lilys hair. Lily chuckled. Someone died. No one understands or remembers anything anyone says so they repeat each others sentences. Danielle finds a billion dollars in her couch cushion.
The only character I like is Adam. The rest are morons.

Ready for a new narrator
Reviewed: 11-22-23
I do love the stories, but the characters are so dense. “I don’t understand” is a repetitive response. Every character repeats the last few words of the previous character’s response as a question. None of them can understand the most simple of concepts. Conversations are so drawn out. Just get to the point. Lily and Ian are annoying.
Enough with the missing thorndike.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

I finished it. Barely.
I really hated Fayre. The entire series I was hoping for her demise.
Everyone spent a lot of time vomiting. Except when the were blinking at each other, of course.
The magic system is all over the place. Sometimes their magic can wipe everyone and everything off the face of the earth, keep entire cities forever hidden, and can transport armies great distances, but the next chapter they can barely use their wings to fly, deal with an old “death god” who lives alone in a thatched hut or hide from a couple of fairies in a library. Ash arrows kill, but only sometimes, and it depends on if you get struck with many.. you live… or just one …. you die.
The monsters are scary, except they don’t do anything and all seem very nice and agreeable to anything anyone asks of them.
I wasted a lot of time.

The crime is so vicious, so personal and filled with hatred, the authorities are certain it had to be someone he knew.... The number-one suspect is Jamie's former lover Jazzy Talbot. The girl from the wrong side of the tracks has always been Cherokee Point's favorite target for gossip and worse. Everyone’s name starts with a J. I got confused.
Jenny faints, screams, and simpers the entire book. All while seeing the murder vividly and in great detail… except who is actually doing the killing. And then she needs someone to watch her sleep for 12 hours. She must be so fun to vacation with.
The men carry the fainting females around, have sex and call them honey. Gag. Random characters play big roles to just drop off the page in the next chapter.
The narrator sounds a few decades older than the characters are supposed to be. They sound 50-60ish.
I’m going to pass on the third one.

Reviewed: 05-26-23
The narrator’s overly dramatic tone is stressful and irritating. I skipped over chunks of several chapters at the end because the story stalled. A lot of repetitive back and forth, fluffy nonsense, and no real character development. The twist doesn’t have to repeatedly jerk you around, or be so ridiculous and unforeseen to sell a story.

Story
Today we move into our new houses, right next door to each other. My ex-husband and me. He’s with someone else. So am I. We’re still the best of friends. We’re making sure we’re not like every other separating couple. We know we will make it work. We’ve even knocked down the fences between the houses, so the children can all run between both homes. But it seems not everyone likes this big, blended stepfamily. I try to ignore the scary note in the "new home" card and the red pen scrawled through my divorce paperwork.

I listened to the first 1/3 or so, then skipped to the last 4 chapters and felt like I missed nothing. It should have been a 2-3hr mini novel. I don’t say this lightly- don’t spend a credit on this one. Narration is very good. The women are characterized as weak, pushovers, and victims. The men are just awful humans. They all deserved each other. Spoiler alert-
A mom that doesn’t follow up on suspected child abuse because she doesn’t want her partner upset with her or worried how she is coming across to others is a selfish turd.
