I don’t like the main character. He is dumb. That turned me off in chapter 3 or 4. Ch 1 had no foreshadowing to get me hooked. By the time the big action happens, the descriptions fell short. The author has done much better with other books. Try the Dimension series, slow but great!

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

I was skeptical, bought it and loved it

First, I don’t like stories with magic, but that is my preference, nothing to do with this book, so I ignored it for years. BIG MISTAKE, it is good, if you like fun character interaction. The characters are relatable and a joy to hear banter. This is not action-packed, but it has the tension of getting caught, like a heist. There IS direct action and it is good. It is just that the characters and the plot are great, so I don’t need to have an explosion every 10 min to keep my attention. I like it and immediately spent money on the next in the series… I put my money where my recommendation mouth is. It is good.

A fun and warm story, I enjoyed it because the firs book was like a scavenger hunt with a twist and fun characters. The second book was had great characters that grew with a bit of mystery and adventure toward the end. Joy and fun without things needing to blow up every 5 minutes.

It was a fun little story
Reviewed: 01-14-24
If you like the sarcastic way cats are, that brings an extra smile to this story. It was enjoyable and several space-actions happen, but I didn’t find that it was a most-read “page turner” of nonstop action. Instead it was good and pleasant and intriguing and fun. If you wan fun this is good. If you want super drama and epic fight scenes, it is not that, if is more of a warm fireplace in the winter book.

The lines. No ship can traverse the void without them. Only linesmen can work with them. But only Ean Lambert hears their song. And everyone thinks he's crazy.... Most slum kids never go far, certainly not becoming a level 10 linesman like Ean. Even if he's part of a small and unethical cartel, and the other linesmen disdain his self-taught methods, he's certified and working. Then a mysterious alien ship is discovered at the edges of the galaxy.

In order to survive, Jordan ekes out a living dabbling in interstellar smuggling for outlaw concerns that represent the last vestiges of free trade in the galaxy. So when Jordan and his partner, Ixil - an alien with two ferret-like "outhunters" linked to his neural system - are hired by a mysterious gentleman to fly a ship and its special cargo to Earth, they jump at the job.

A great story! A who-done-it space opera.
I hesitated getting this book when other reviewers talked about the reader “yelling”. NOT an issue. It was just the reader acting out the character’s feelings. It was perfect fitting IMHO. The mystery was good the action came in the waves that I appreciated and the character’s motivations felt real. The plot was in no way predictable and keeper me interested. Jolly good.
