Story
Modern biographies of Richard Nixon have been consumed with Watergate. All have missed arguably the most important perspective on Nixon as California's native son, the only U.S. president born and raised in California. By shifting the focus from Watergate and Washington to Nixon's deep, defining roots in California, Paul Carter boldly challenges common conceptions of the thirty-seventh president of the United States.

Liked the story of his family life. I am happy the real man is being written about and hopefully history will be kind to his memory. I would like his girls to know they had a great dad.

Story
During World War II, American soldiers from every city and walk of life rolled through North Platte, Nebraska, on troop trains, en route to Europe and the Pacific. The tiny town transformed its modest railroad depot into the North Platte Canteen, a place where soldiers could enjoy coffee, music, home-cooked food, magazines, and friendly conversation during a stopover that lasted only a few minutes.

I loved everything about this book. The story, the narration! It made me sad that the civility of that era is almost gone. It was so remarkable to know that for over five years there was this wonderful community of giving people, their resources and their time. I am sure there were great rewards for their generosity.

I have never read anything quite convicting as this book. Yes America is blessed, but are we going to be able to stand persecution. We have seen our world turned upside down because of a virus. I pray that we Christians will start to turn this world around for Jesus! Thank you God for sending this book.

I thought Lynn Austin did a superb job of describing conditions after the Civil War. So sad that the reforms that were needed were put off so long. I felt great empathy for what the people were going through especially former slaves. Thank God for the courage of people that did do their part to change and bring about change.

The writing of Lynn Austin is wonderful. She keeps you captivated with each character to the point you don't want to put the book down. I felt like I was in each scene and felt the emotion of each sister as they went from one experience to another. I love how the sisters kept their ties to each other all the way through.

Story
You can believe because of the evidence, not in spite of it. For the first 35 years of his life, J. Warner Wallace was a devout atheist. After all, how can you believe a claim made about an event in the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence? Then Wallace realized something. Christianity was a lot like the cold cases he solved as a homicide detective - cold cases that turned out to have enough evidence, eyewitnesses, and records to solve.

A great book. My husband and I have listened to this together and plan to hear it again. We are both believers in the Bible and Christ followers so I am excited books like this are written. I would recommend it to anyone who has doubts. Since Jim Wallace is a detective he uses those techniques to explore the validity of the Bible. He does a great job.
