The beloved star of Friends takes us behind the scenes of the hit sitcom and his struggles with addiction in this candid, funny, and revelatory memoir that delivers a powerful message of hope and persistence. In an extraordinary story that only he could tell, Matthew Perry takes listeners onto the soundstage of the most successful sitcom of all time while opening up about his private struggles with addiction. Friends
Reviewed: 02-16-25
Friends is my favorite sitcom of all time. I’m 10 years older than my “Friends” and became a mom at 19 by 25 I had 3 children. My mid 20-30’s looked very different from theirs, they allowed me to live vicariously that time frame through it all. (Writers, actors, all of it.)
I rewatched all 10 years this summer and laughed and cried just as I have done now with Matthew Perry’s book. Addiction sucks, and I’m so saddened by his death and so grateful he knew God. Rest well my “friend”, until we meet again!

Story
When Andrew McCarthy's eldest son began to take his first steps into adulthood, McCarthy found himself wishing time would slow down. Looking to create a more meaningful connection with Sam before he fled the nest, as well as recreate his own life-altering journey decades before, McCarthy decided the two of them should set out on a trek like few others: 500 miles across Spain's Camino de Santiago. Over the course of the journey, the pair traversed an unforgiving landscape, having more honest conversations in five weeks than they'd had in the preceding two decades.

As the mother of three sons and only 3 years older than Andrew McCarthy, I found at times I laughed right out loud. I get it. I think a young person on the other side of that coin will too. Take the journey. You won’t be sorry!

Living in today's world can be challenging as well as draining. Our fast pace of life, coupled with constant demands to do more, get more, and be more, makes being still and living more deliberately in his presence seem unattainable. But God tells us that, while the cares of the world seem pressing now, we are not alone - we have lasting hope and peace in him.

Great book. I read it because it was required for my 5th grade class. It quickly became a forever favorite. The story is pertinent today too. Sometimes we go from riches to rags.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.
