And Joe knew that he might be their next target. The Cates family had always been a bad lot. Game warden Joe Pickett had been able to strike a fierce blow against them when the life of his daughter April had been endangered, but he'd always wondered if there'd be a day of reckoning.

Story
Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened. When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Poor character development
Reviewed: 09-23-19
For me this is not a good rating for a book I have finished. Entertaining enough to finish however I will not be continuing with the series. My main complaint is that characters are introduced and become involved without getting to know them. Did not spend the time to develop individuals which makes for great series.

Nice end to series!!
Reviewed: 03-05-19
This was a nice end to a three book series. However from the ending it appears that Koontz is planning on continuing with the series with the same general story line. I enjoyed the first three novels but think more will get old. Will not be continuing with the series.
