Story
It is the summer of 1919, and Constance Haverhill is without prospects. Now that all the men have returned from the front, she has been asked to give up her cottage and her job at the estate she helped run during the war. While she looks for a position as a bookkeeper or—horror—a governess, she’s sent as a lady’s companion to an old family friend who is convalescing at a seaside hotel. Despite having only weeks to find a permanent home, Constance is swept up in the social whirl of Hazelbourne-on-Sea after she rescues the local baronet’s daughter, Poppy Wirrall, from a social faux pas.

Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

In the 60’s when I was 12, I fell in love with biology because of an excellent teacher! I told my mom I wanted a chemistry kit because I loved looking at things in a microscope. Mom promptly told me “Those are for boys”. I could totally relate to this book. I think it’s time for me to buy that chemistry set!

Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Contradicting Messages by author
Reviewed: 05-13-22
I was really looking forward to listening to this book but I was disappointed by the authors comments in the beginning of the book and her contempt towards those individuals ( including medical professionals)
who have chosen to remain unvaccinated.
It was a struggle to get through the rest of the book because all the empathy and compassion for others did not extend to this particular group of individuals. My hope is that the author will reflect on this topic and actually sit down and talk to individuals with different perspectives as she discusses in this book.
