Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Story
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Great history and an amazing story of survival!

This story is a desperate time in world history told from the eyes of a very strong and faithful woman who is a true survivor! The horrors of the Holocaust didn’t weaken her faith in God, and instead inspired her to teach others to trust in God and have hope!

Story
LeAnne Hogan went to Afghanistan as a rising star in the military and came back a much lesser person, mentally and physically. Now missing an eye and with half her face badly scarred, she can barely remember the disastrous desert operation that almost killed her. She is confused, angry, and suspects the fault is hers, even though nobody will come out and say it. Shattered by one last blow - the sudden death of her hospital roommate, Marci - LeAnne finds herself on a fateful drive across the country, reflecting on her past and seeing no future.

Enjoyable, but not the most gripping story
Reviewed: 02-12-19
I liked the story but the ending seemed rushed. The main character was a little more harsh toward the dog for my taste. However, the author was consistent in her character and achieved a calculated minor softening in LeAnn after the dog appeared. I was expecting a deeper bond between LeAnn and Goody, the dog in plot, but it didn't occur in the story.

Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

Story
To all appearances, Dan Chase is a harmless retiree in Vermont with two big mutts and a grown daughter he keeps in touch with by phone. But most 60-year-old widowers don't have multiple driver's licenses, savings stockpiled in banks across the country, and a bugout kit with two Beretta Nanos stashed in the spare bedroom closet. Most have not spent decades on the run.

I enjoyed this book and also the performance. I especially appreciated the character development, descriptive language, and pace. The changing character personas of the "old man" were entertaining and thorough. This was my first Tom Perry novel and I will definitely read/listen to additional novels of his. Peter Berkrot's performance is very well matched with the book, and enhances the story. He is very articulate, steady, and enjoyable to listen to. I would recommend this book to a friend.

Story
John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed facade begin to crack.

The author communicates so beautifully the essence of the animals she writes about in a very clever way combining a unique plot with very well developed characters. It was very entertaining. At the beginning of the book it was hard to tell who the narrator/author was speaking for, but I was quickly able to pick up and get into the perspective. The narrator does a beautiful performance. It was a very entertaining story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend it!

This is a gripping story told in part from the perspective of an alcoholic. At time feels a bit depressing being on the journey with an alcolohic Rachael. But you stick with her, hoping she will overcome her addiction. Ironically, the tragedy she goes through is what helps her. The changing perspectives and character voices narrating really makes the story very suspenseful. The timelines from each character keeps the story unfolding also. The character development is excellent. I couldn't stop listening all the way to the very end! I highly recommend this book!
